Liam moved first, feeling exhausted after his hard work to keep Aria in check. His exhaustion showed clearly on his face, and his boss immediately decided to speak up before Liam could say anything.
"Oh my! Look at how marvelous of a job you both did. As a result, I have decided to give you a raise, Liam. How does double your regular pay sound? I'll even add some traveling allowance. I'll see you tomorrow."
Liam looked at his boss with narrowed eyes. He knew that his boss was trying to bribe him with money. He was sweetening the poison pot to make Liam fall into it.
And the worst thing was—Liam knew himself well. He was going to fall into that pot willingly because he liked the money and did not mind the working conditions.
"I understand, boss. I will see you and Miss Aria tomorrow."
Liam assured him before quickly leaving the shop. It was already dark outside, and he knew that it was not safe for him to walk around.
Even if he was an adult male and had magic, that did not mean he was safe from all the crime that could be committed toward him.
"I need to buy a bike to get to work. I would like to get a car…but I don't think I can afford it right now. I need to save every penny I can at the moment."
He had a lot of money currently sitting in his bank account, but life was unpredictable, and you could never tell when he might need money. So until he felt more stable, he was not going to make any big purchases.
But a bike won't hurt, and it would not cost as much as a car did. Surely, investing in a bike would be fine…
Liam was heading home, but he changed directions quickly and decided to head toward his nearest dealership instead. He had made up his mind to get a bike for himself.
"Welcome, dear customer. What can I help you with today?"
His handler immediately greeted Liam with a smile on his face. He had the greasy smile that most dealers had when they knew they were going to scam someone. It made Liam want to turn back and head out.
But he had done extensive research (before awakening as a magician), and this was the best place for him to buy anything. So, despite his misgivings about this place, he decided to head inside and shake his dealer's hand.
"So, what can I help you with today? What kind of vehicle are you looking for? I can introduce you to some great beauties if you like."
The dealer asked with a sly smile on his face. Liam ignored his feeling of distrust when his eyes landed on a sleek and black beauty sitting all alone in the corner of the room. It was on display, so it was not cheap, but just looking at it was enough to make Liam throw all his plans out of the window.
Seeing his interest, the dealer smiled even more before he coughed to grab Liam's attention.
"Looks like you found your match, Mister. Would you like me to ring you up for it? It was pre-booked and that was why it was being shown in the corner, but if you like it that much, then we can sell it to you right now. You will just have to pay an extra 100 dollars."
The dealer said it was no big deal, but 100 dollars was not a small amount.
'But if it is spent to bring a beauty like this home, then is it too much to ask for? I am sure I can afford it…'
At this point, Liam was trying to justify his reason to buy such a beauty to himself. Even he knew that he was ready to pay that inflated price if it meant that he got to bring that beauty home.
"Looks like we have a finalized deal here. Shall I draw up the papers for you right now? Would you like to pay in full or in installments?"
The dealer asked, and he looked more and more like a fox by the second. But unfortunately, he already had Liam where he wanted him.
"I will pay it all now with my card, and I would like to take the bike out as soon as possible."
Liam was a fish caught by the dealership, and he almost threw up when he saw the amount of money he had to pay for the bike. It was almost more than a standard car.
He sighed, paid the amount, and walked out of the dealership with the bike.
"I'm gonna cherish you a lot. You are the result of all my hard work and labor up until now. I promise I will do my best to protect you."
It almost sounded as if Liam was making a marriage vow, and Liam had all the intentions of treating his bike as something precious to him.
He quickly got back to his home and parked his bike in his side storage before putting a thick lock on it. He was not going to let anyone else harm his bike.
"Hey, human, what did you hide in that side house? Can I see it? Is it something fun? Are you not going to tell me?"
Asger asked in a curious voice. He looked curious enough to head toward the side building and check for himself what was in there.
"Don't you dare go in there. I will make your life difficult if you dare to disobey me. Do you understand? I am not in the mood to play around."
Liam's threat worked, and Asger looked uncomfortable and taken aback. But Liam should have realized then and there that Asger was like a kid who could not be stopped, and trying would only make him more agitated and curious.
And unfortunately, he did not manage to curb the curious half-dragon.
