After leaving the hospital, Emma was burning with anger and initially intended to drive straight to the company to expose William's schemes to her grandfather. However, as she sat in the car in silence, her mind racing, she gradually calmed down and realized that now was not the right time to reveal the truth.
"Grandfather's health is already fragile. If he learns about William's betrayal and the company's compromised state, can his heart withstand the shock?" Emma gripped the steering wheel tightly, her eyes filled with determination, yet her thoughts were a whirlwind of worry. Memories of her grandfather's sudden heart attack in her previous life surged into her mind, piercing her heart with pain.
"No, I absolutely cannot lose Grandfather again." She drew a deep breath, her emotions slowly settling as her strategy became clearer. "Unveiling the truth is crucial, but protecting Grandfather's health is even more important."
Emma decided to take a more measured approach. First, she needed to ensure that her grandfather was on the correct medication to improve his condition. Next, she would selectively reveal parts of the truth to make him wary of William while positioning herself as someone willing to shoulder some of the family's burdens. This would provide her with an opportunity to enter the Smith family business and gradually regain control.
With a new plan in mind, Emma resolutely turned the car around and headed back to the hospital.
In the hospital director's office, the director had just finished reviewing a document and was preparing to take a short break when a knock came at the door.
"Come in," he called, looking up in mild surprise as Emma stepped into the room. "Miss Emma? You've returned so quickly. Is there something else you need help with?"
Emma entered the office with measured steps, her expression tinged with a subtle heaviness. Sitting down, she met the director's gaze, her tone serious. "Director, I need your assistance with something very important."
The director gestured for her to sit more comfortably and replied warmly, "Of course, Miss Emma. Whatever you need, just let me know, and I'll do my best to help."
Lowering her gaze briefly to gather her thoughts, Emma then spoke with calm determination. "Director, regarding my grandfather's health examination report, you may provide the information as needed if anyone inquires. There's no need for particular secrecy in that regard. However, the additional drug analysis I asked you to conduct must remain completely confidential. No one—not even my grandfather—can know about it."
The director frowned slightly at her words. "Not even Mr. James? Are you certain?"
Emma nodded firmly. "Yes, I am. I need to carry out a thorough investigation and get to the bottom of this matter. If Grandfather learns of this prematurely and can't bear the blow, I can't risk the consequences if his condition worsens."
The director immediately responded with understanding, "I see. Don't worry, Miss Emma. I will ensure the utmost confidentiality."
Relieved, Emma exhaled softly before continuing. "In addition, I need your help in finding a trusted doctor who can prescribe medication suitable for Grandfather's current health condition. I'll personally deliver it to him and tell him that it's a new prescription tailored to his deteriorating health."
The director nodded, a faint smile of reassurance appearing on his face. "You've come to the right person. After receiving Mr. James's health report, I already contacted my old friend, Dr. Asbury, who is the foremost expert on heart conditions. Conveniently, he's in B City this month. I've asked him to prepare a prescription based on the report, and the medication will be ready by tomorrow."
Hearing this, a glimmer of relief crossed Emma's eyes, and the tension in her body eased slightly. "That's wonderful news. Thank you so much, Director."
After a brief pause, her tone grew even more solemn. "I'll come by tomorrow to collect the medication. Also, I need you to align with the explanation I'll provide publicly. We can't afford to raise any suspicions."
The director nodded gravely. "Understood. I'll follow your lead on this."
Standing up, Emma gave a polite bow, her expression filled with gratitude. "Thank you, Director. This matter is critical for both me and my grandfather."
As Emma left the office, the director couldn't help but watch her departing figure with a mixture of admiration and sympathy. "It seems turbulent times are ahead," he thought. The once carefree and innocent young woman he had known had matured into a calm, composed strategist, forced to grow up far too quickly in the face of mounting challenges.
