Chapter 4

I left before the interview concluded. Once Silas explained that our marriage had been a facade for the past year, I departed.

In an instant, I was reduced to Silas's cast-off.

Meanwhile, Jane emerged as the sole blameless party in this saga.

The interview remained at the forefront of social media for days, with interest remaining consistently high.

Notably, Silas's statement: "Thea and I had intended to end our marriage a year ago, but the timing wasn't ideal. We initially hoped to handle it discreetly, but now that an innocent person has been affected, we must provide a public explanation. Miss Jane is not responsible for the breakdown of our relationship. She is the only person my mentor entrusted to me before passing. It's only natural that I look after her. I urge everyone to consider this situation objectively."

Some misguided fans suggested that the reason for my split with Silas was my inability to tolerate even the slightest imperfection, misinterpreting their platonic bond and supposed gratitude as something inappropriate.

They also labeled me as small-minded and lacking generosity, claiming that after five years of marriage, I hadn't absorbed any of Silas's loyalty or sense of duty.

The topic continued to brew for several days.

I became the subject of public scrutiny.

After exiting with the divorce papers, Silas called out: "Don't let the online chatter get to you. People will soon forget about it."

I paused and couldn't help but chuckle softly.

How could the reactions be so different when we were both being criticized online?

"Thea, the New Year is just two months away," Silas mentioned.

"Why don't we get remarried at the start of next year?"

He looked at me, about to step closer when I moved back, calmly turning my attention to the reporters in the distance being held back by security.

Silas seemed to realize his misstep and remained where he was.

"Silas, I'm returning to my hometown," I stated.

"You haven't been back in a while. It's good to visit. I'll come get you for New Year's-"

"I'm not coming back," I calmly cut Silas off.

The faint smile vanished from his face, his eyes filled with bewilderment.

I continued, "When I agreed to sign the divorce papers, you made me one promise."

Silas gazed at me blankly.

When I first regained consciousness in this life, it took me only a moment to sort out my feelings for Silas.

Initially, upon seeing the divorce papers, I considered going berserk and shredding them, making a scene with him again, but ultimately, logic prevailed.

After a pause, I curved my lips into a smile:

"Silas, I hope you never show up in front of me again."
