"Shouldn't a guy tell a girl he likes her?" I pondered. "You can't imagine how much being poor can rob a man of his bravery," Andrew said with regret. "I tried to give you clues, but you never caught on. It made me think I didn't stand a chance."
Reflecting on the past, I remembered it was during our second year of college when Andrew and Jasper started hanging out. That same blazing hot summer, with insects chirping non-stop, I accepted Jasper's offer to be his girlfriend.
Andrew and Jasper's friendship began through their shared interest in basketball. Andrew soon started asking Jasper to play more frequently, and before long, they were rarely seen apart.
Strangely, despite Jasper being the better player, whenever I came to watch, he'd end up losing to Andrew, who was average at best. Andrew's unexpected wins always left Jasper unsettled. Eventually, to save Jasper from embarrassment, I stopped attending their games altogether.
