I struggled to suppress my anguish as I called my parents, requesting them to remove both William and Anne from the premises.

Striving to maintain a steady tone, I said, "Mom, Dad, please ask them to leave. Inform the family that the engagement celebration is delayed and will be rescheduled."

"Claire, what's the matter? Has William done something to upset you?" My parents' worry nearly pushed me over the edge. I felt tears forming but refused to let them fall.

In my heart, I knew they had likely deduced what had transpired.

I never thought these two individuals—once so crucial to me, whom I cherished and relied on—would become the source of my greatest pain.

The bond Anne and I once shared, along with all our cherished recollections, flooded back in overwhelming waves.

I could almost hear Anne's youthful, gentle voice from our close childhood days.
