From that point forward, I had completely lost faith in William. Now, as I listened to his words, I felt only a bitter sense of irony.

I asked directly, "Why isn't my name listed on the property deed?"

"You're coming to me about this?" His tone was filled with contempt.

I couldn't contain myself any longer. Fury coursed through me as I retorted, "I have recorded proof of your affair with Anne. If I send it to your company's executives, your career is over."

"Are you blackmailing me?" He sounded briefly shocked, then his voice became panicked.

Suddenly, his demeanor changed, becoming softer as he began to beg, "Claire, can you forgive me? I truly love you. What happened with Anne was an error. I promise it won't occur again."

"Stop the act, William. You never cared for me—you only care about yourself."

I couldn't stand to hear another word. I ended the call abruptly.
