Immediately while still keeping track of the beast, Jayde broke through the surface of the ocean, noticing that the water was somewhat settled he immediately focused on the system.
Taking a deep breath a key appeared in his hands, this was none other than the legacy key that was bestowed unto him by the sequence, his muscles tensed as he clenched the key shattering it, for a few seconds nothing happened but Jayde remained calm, then suddenly there was a massive surge of ether in the surrounding as a notification popped in its view.
[legacy key activated…]
[multiple legacy weapons detected…]
[you are eligible for one pick…]
[Scorn of Gluttony (??)]
[Fallen Calamity (??)]
[Shadow Veil (??)]
[Titan Forcer (??)]
[Deaths Haladie (??)]
Jaydes eyes lit up after reading the list, of all listed he only recognized two. Before his regression, he had been bestowed three legacy items by the sequence. These were namely Scorn of Gluttony, Fallen Calamity and one that wasn't on this list anymore Deaths Token.
Of the three the first two had been vital keys in his ascent as the second strongest as they supported him with their cheat-like abilities, wielding those two he was a nightmare on the battlefield and for all his foes. But the one called Deaths Token had been mostly useless, it had no description and no abilities to speak of, infarct the only reason he kept it back then was because it was a glyph that was imprinted on his skin which he couldn't get rid of.
It wasn't till he died before he could vaguely guess what his ability was. It was probably what caused his reincarnation into the past. Seeing it wasn't on the list anymore wasn't much of a surprise, it was probably a one-use item after activating on his death it ceased to exist. Though this was all a speculation he was confident that his conjecture was right, after all, there could be no other explanation for his regression. With this it could be seen how useful and powerful legacy items were, people would kill for a chance to obtain one.
Without hesitation he picked the first on the list Scorn of Gluttony, this item was his first companion back then and it would be the same now. With this item, he would be more confident even if he claimed the shadow-mancer title his growth wouldn't be affected.
Immediately he made his choice the screen vanished, as everything went silent it was as though time had paused, even the ocean waves settled as the ocean waters became still, suddenly a crack appeared in space it spread rapidly before shattering leaving a crack in the void.
The other end of the crack revealed nothing just pure darkness could be seen, from the crack came a surge of ether, ether so dense it could be seen in the form of mists, with every breath Jayde took he could feel the nourishment of the pure ether on his body.
Then from the crack, slowly coming into sight was a rectangular box plain black, it floated towards Jayde reaching in front of him the box opened, revealing what lay within as it shone a crimson light, jayde felt nostalgic as he stared at the item a long lost friend, he sighed feeling emotional. Honestly, he thought it was going to be till the second sequence before he would be able to get it back.
But now it was here reaching forward he grabbed it and pulled out of the box it came into view, it was a sword, an eerie sword whose blade was curved revealing the shape of a kohpesh, it was pitch black except with crimson runic lines that covered the weapon pulsing faintly.
After it was empty the box quickly closed returning into the crack as it exited, space rapidly generated, and everything went back to normal. Inspecting the weapon with a smile Jayde read its description.
[Scorn of Gluttony]
[History: a crazed bloodthirsty fiend once roamed the universe leaving calamities in its wake, as it ate it grew it devoured countless worlds as it developed getting stronger and stronger a true incarnation of gluttony it was, unfortunately for it, it came across ???, "OH? Wow I like your talent, come be my blade" and just like that ??? took a fancy of it turning it into a weapon ending the fiend like that]
[abilities:]
[soul eater: it bestows its master the talents of those slayed with it.]
[uses 0/9]
[Living weapon: unlike any other the cursed blade has life it can condense circles, planes and the like increasing its might]
[Fiends Malice: all cuts granted by the cursed blade will bestow its endless malice]
"Welcome back old friend" Jayde greeted his hands caressing its blade. The cursed weapon pulsed lightly responding to its master. "what do you say we celebrate our reunion with blood" Jayde said lightly to which the weapon pulsed rapidly expressing its agreement.
The item Scorn of Gluttony was unique, in the fact that it was sentient and had life, back then Jayde nurtured the weapon by stealing various abilities, and increasing its strength, infarct back then he prioritized its growth more than his own, he successfully nurtured it to the ninth plane back then. So one could imagine how terrifyingly devastating such a weapon was.
With the blade in their arms, Jayde dived back into the ocean, his eyes trained on the hulking sea mantis in the distance, squinting slightly Jayde's eyes radiated a fierce light, he had decided what ability he was going to steal first.
He lunched himself forward ready to engage the monster. Moving quickly when he was a few meters from the beast, it reacted as its antenna-like eyes twitched slightly, and its massive pincers shot forward, to describe this attack only one word could be used for it, and that was Fast!, thought it arms couldn't reach jayde because of the distance, the fast punch compressed the surrounding water shooting it out like a bullet.
In that split moment before the attack reached him, the water vibrated as a pentagon-shaped rune came into light floating behind Jayde as his mental intent flexed, moving him away from the beast's line of attack, jayde eyes narrowed it wasn't smart to embroil in a close combat battle with such an opponent especially when he was in the sea.
His deep blue irises glowed as the shadow of the beast churned, forming massive tentacles that wrapped around the beast binding it. Though the beast struggled it was futile as jaydes talent had long reached D grade, so it could be said each of the tentacles wrapped around the monster had the durability of a D grade treasure, which a beast of this level couldn't hope to break.
Jayde moved as he took his sword stabbing it on the head of the struggling beast, after this he moved back. The sword which had already been rattling in excitement immediately took action. The beast struggling paused, as its eyes turned red and it started writhing in pain, as the sword feasted, the monster's pitiful figure began to shrink as the cursed blade sucked away at its soul and energy. When the cursed blade was done what was once a gigantic sea mantis was now nothing more than a shriveled husk.
The blade quickly detached itself as it flew back to Jaydes arms, catching the weapon a notification followed.
[Soul-Eater (1/9)]
[Aquired talent Quick Strike (FFF+)..]
Jayde grinned, his mind wandering back to his nine guests, if any of them refused him after his magnanimity, after all, he let them use an elite-grade nurturing dungeon, they would quickly hear from his sword, after all he didn't need them he just needed their ability.
Storing the cursed blade in his consciousness space, he continued on his journey, he could feel it already through the shadows, his island was nearby.
