They were all restless. Well restless was an understatement for what they were feeling. They had been reckless, oblivious, not observant. Asahi and Takahara blamed themselves furiously. Asahi knew he should tell his dad and Leon, he was scared to but he didn't have any option.
TWO HOURS EARLIER
Asahi opened his slightly trying to remember what happened then he jerked his eyes wide awake. Hinata, where's his baby.
" Hinata, baby, where are you?" He yelled anxiously, cold beads of sweat breaking on his forehead.
" Hinata, come baby, I'm sorry I was late to your birthday, sorry I didn't wish you first, you don't have to forgive me, just..just please show me your face," he said. The rest of the people woke up because of his yells. They were shocked by the scene they saw. They had never seen Asahi vulnerable before. That was when it hit them, two people were missing.
" Where are they? Where the fuck is Haruki?" Takahara asked, yelling.
" They...they took them, that woman took them," Asahi said to no one in particular. The tears came from nowhere, pouring.
" What the heck is going on?" Masayoshi asked.
" I'm scared," Riku whimpered. " Are they going to be safe?" He asked tugging the edge of Masayoshi's shirt. Masayoshi hugged him tightly, " We won't let any harm come to them." He whispered.
PRESENT
The rest of the team had left, after promising not to say a word about what happened. They refused to leave at first, but staying would unnecessarily endanger their lives. Reluctantly, they left leaving Masayoshi, Riku, Asahi, Takahara and Nagamori.
" What do we do now?" Nagamori asked, he was in panic as well.
Asahi fumbled with his pocket and brought his phone out. " Dad....dad, she's with them, I..... I'm sorry Leon, you....you entrusted your sons to me and I...I couldn't even protect them," he cried furiously. Angry and frustrated with himself.
Leon held the cold, sleek phone Sol had just put into his hand. The plastic felt almost alien in his grip. He stared at the screen blankly for a moment, the faint glow reflecting in his wide, anxious eyes. Then, he took a deep breath and brought it to his ear. He recognized the faint rasp of Asahi's breathing on the other end.
"Hey Asahi listen," Leon started, his voice a shaky whisper at first, then gaining strength. His gaze darted around the cramped, dingy space of Sol's apartment, searching for something tangible to focus on. A chipped teacup on the cluttered table, a faded poster torn at the edges, anything to ground him.
"It's not your fault, okay?" he continued, his voice laced with urgency. He could hear the faint tremor in Asahi's breathing intensify. "You tried, you tried hard. We all did."
He ran a hand through his already dishevelled hair, the weight of the words he was about to say pressing down on him. This was the conversation they had all dreaded, the one they had hoped to avoid, even though they knew it was inevitable.
"This was inevitable," Leon said, the words tasting like ash in his mouth. "No matter how hard we tried to avoid it, we can't escape it."
He could almost feel Asahi's silent grief, a heavy, suffocating presence on the other end of the line. He knew Asahi blamed himself. Asahi always blamed himself when things went wrong.
"You have to be strong, okay?" he urged, his voice cracking slightly. "For yourself, for me, for Sol, for everyone ith you, for Haruki and most importantly for your love, Hinata. They wouldn't want you to crumble."
Asahi remembered the countless hours they had spent strategizing, the late nights fueled by cheap coffee and desperate hope, the love they had shared, the difficulties they had endured. Hinata had been his heart, his world, his everything, the one who held him together when confusion seemed to take over his rationale. He couldn't let himself break now.
"I know it hurts, Asahi. God, I know it hurts. It feels like we've been kicked in the gut and left for dead, doesn't it?" Leon continued, his voice raw with emotion. "But they're not dead. They're still here. And we'll get through this. We have to. We will save them."
He paused, listening intently. He could hear a choked sob escape Asahi's lips. Leon's own eyes stung with tears, but he blinked them back. He had to be strong, for Asahi, for his sons. Sol held him, had been holding him since, stroking his head to keep him calm.
"Remember what we talked about?" Leon prompted gently. "Remember the plan? We still have a chance, Asahi. It's not over."
He knew he was grasping at straws, clinging to a hope that was dwindling with each passing second. But he had to give Asahi something to hold onto, something to fight for.
"Don't give up, Asahi. Please. I need you. We need you." Leon's voice was barely a whisper now, laced with desperation.
He waited, the silence stretching between them, thick and heavy with unspoken words. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, he heard a faint, shaky voice on the other end of the line.
"Okay, Leon," Asahi whispered. "Okay. I'll try."
It wasn't much, but it was enough. It was a spark of hope in the darkness, a fragile promise to keep fighting. Leon closed his eyes, relief flooding through him, washing away the fear, if only for a moment. The battle was far from over, but for now, Asahi was still in the fight. And that, Leon knew, was all that mattered. He opened his eyes, a flicker of determination hardening his gaze. The chipped teacup, the faded poster, they all seemed a little brighter now, illuminated by the fragile light of resilience. He would be strong, too. For his sons. For them all.
He could take his human form already and was perfectly standing and had even started exercising. Aries couldn't have picked a more perfect moment, and he'll make sure she lived to regret what she had done.
