chapter 3: last mythology class

Everyone sat quietly as the lecturer entered the room.

"Good morning, everyone," she greeted, her voice calm yet commanding.

"Today, we'll cover the various ranks within the pack," she continued, her tone steady as she began her lecture. "There are many roles, such as Beta, Gamma, Omega, Warrior, White Wolf, Whisper, Noni, and more, but the most crucial of all is the Alpha."

She paused, letting the weight of her words sink in.

"The Beta holds the position of second-in-command. Should the Alpha require a Beta, the Gamma follows as the third. The Warrior, on the other hand, is the Alpha's most skilled fighter in times of battle. If the Alpha is absent, either the Warrior or the Beta assumes leadership.

The White Wolf, however, is an entirely different creature. This rare and revered wolf possesses the strength of a thousand Alphas, which is why it remains so elusive in the wild."

The class listened intently as she continued, her words painting vivid pictures.

"Whisper," she went on, "is the second brain of the pack, working in close tandem with the Alpha. While the Alpha constructs the overarching strategies, it is Whisper who devises the specific plans in times of war. Incredibly, Whisper also possesses the rare ability to communicate in its wolf form—without the need for mind-linking."

A soft murmur passed through the room at the mention of this extraordinary ability.

"Noni," she continued, her voice softening slightly, "is the pack's healer, the doctor. But unlike most, they prefer to be called simply 'Doctor.' Then, we have the Omega. If the Alpha chooses not to appoint a Beta, the Omega becomes the Alpha's trusted advisor, guiding the pack with wisdom and insight."

The lecturer's eyes swept across the room, making sure every student was engaged before she concluded with a smile.

"And finally, the Alpha—the head of it all. But beyond that, there exists the Lord Alpha, the supreme leader over all the Alphas.

Well, that's all for today. I'll see you all in the best university there is," she said, her tone laced with pride, before walking out of the classroom.

The lecturer paused at the door, turning to face the class one last time before exiting.

"But, before I go," she said, her eyes glinting with a new level of seriousness, "I want you to understand that each of these roles, while powerful in their own right, comes with immense responsibility. The balance of the pack is fragile, and each member plays a crucial part in maintaining harmony."

She walked back to the front of the room, now addressing them with a more intense gaze.

"The Beta, though second in command, is not just an obedient follower of the Alpha. They must think independently and act with foresight, for when the Alpha is unavailable, it is the Beta who must keep the pack cohesive. Without a strong Beta, the pack may splinter."

Her voice lowered, becoming more somber.

"Then there's the Warrior. Their strength is undeniable, their prowess unmatched, but their role is not simply about fighting. A true Warrior must understand the weight of leadership that comes when they take charge in battle. In war, there are no simple victories. Every decision could lead to life or death. The Warrior's responsibility is not just to fight, but to think like an Alpha in times of crisis."

She turned toward the chalkboard and wrote the word "Balance" with swift, deliberate strokes.

"Balance is the cornerstone of leadership in the pack. The Alpha commands, but they also must listen. The Warrior leads in battle, but they must heed the counsel of the Beta, Whisper, and Omega. There is a delicate dance that must occur in every decision, whether it's strategy, survival, or succession. The Alpha, as the head, must know when to be a leader, but also when to step back and allow others to lead."

She turned to face the class again, her expression growing more contemplative.

"The White Wolf, though rare, symbolizes the power that comes from unity and history. It is said that when the White Wolf enters a pack, it doesn't just lead—it reminds the pack of what they are capable of. Its presence is a force of nature, meant to inspire greatness. But remember, this role is not one to be taken lightly. If one is chosen to embody the White Wolf, they must understand the weight of the legacy they carry."

The room fell silent as the weight of her words settled in.

"Whisper," she continued, "is the strategist, the unseen hand that guides the pack through battles of the mind. They are the planners, the tacticians who orchestrate from the shadows, always aware of the long game. Without them, the Alpha would be blind in the dark. While the Alpha sees the big picture, it is the Whisper who ensures the details are accounted for. They can communicate with the wolves, using more than just the mind-link. They speak through the pulse of the pack, and their words—though few—are always powerful."

She paused again, letting the significance of each role sink in.

"Every pack needs its Omega. Do not mistake the Omega's position as one of weakness or subordination. The Omega is not to be underestimated. They are the last line of defense when everything else falls apart. Their counsel is invaluable because they see things through a different lens. They are not bogged down by the politics of leadership; they see the truth with unclouded eyes. If you ever find yourself leading, remember that the Omega is often the one who can guide you through the most difficult decisions."

The class was rapt with attention now, each student hanging on her every word.

"The Lord Alpha," she added, her voice softening slightly, "is an ideal—an image of what the Alpha can become. Not every Alpha can claim the title of Lord Alpha, and even fewer deserve it. It is a title earned through unmatched wisdom, strength, and the ability to unite not just their own pack, but the packs of others. The Lord Alpha is the one who carries the weight of the world on their shoulders, but who also has the power to change the course of history. But remember," she said, her gaze sharp, "the title does not come without its trials. The Lord Alpha must face challenges from within their pack and from others. It is a position of constant pressure, for to rule over all other Alphas is to invite envy, ambition, and rebellion."

She paced slowly, collecting her thoughts before delivering her final point.

"Lastly, I want you all to remember this: the ranks I've discussed are not mere titles. They are not positions to be won by ambition alone. They are roles you step into when you prove yourself—through loyalty, strength, intelligence, and heart. It is not the Alpha alone who leads. It is the pack as a whole that thrives. Every role is crucial. You are all here because, one day, you might find yourselves in these very positions, making decisions that affect the lives of your pack members, your family, your legacy."

The lecturer's gaze swept over the room, her eyes locking with each student as she spoke her final words.

"Strive for balance, for wisdom, and above all, for integrity. The pack will only be as strong as the individuals who form it."

She took a step back, her presence commanding yet calm.

"Now, go. Reflect on what I've taught you. I'll see you all if the future permits . And remember," she said with a slight smile, "in this world, your rank is only as important as the loyalty you show to your pack."

With that, she walked out, leaving the room to buzz with contemplation and thought.
