The next morning, Jin Mo woke up early, fully prepared for the hunt. He secured the sword given to him by Sir Cedric and took a deep breath, steadying his nerves. Today was the day he would prove himself to his father.
A knock echoed through his room. He walked over and opened the door.
Standing before him was his father, tall and imposing, his presence alone exuding an aura of strength. His sharp eyes scanned Jin Mo from head to toe, as if measuring his readiness.
"Are you ready for the hunt?" his father asked, his deep voice filled with authority.
Jin Mo straightened his posture and nodded firmly. "Yes."
His father gave a small nod of approval. "Let's go."
The father and son duo ventured into the vast forest, alone with no guards accompanying them. Jin Mo suspected this was intentional—his father likely wanted to spend some time alone with him while also testing his abilities firsthand.
The Ironwood forest was divided into three layers:
Outer Layer – Home to small animals such as rabbits, deer, and monkeys.
Middle Layer – Roamed by Mortal Beasts like Dire Wolves, Razor Boars and Profound Beasts including Shadow Panthers and Ironhide Bears.
Inner Layer – The domain of Arcane Beasts - Ember Basilisks, Thunderclaw Bulls.
Beasts were categorized into six ranks:
Mortal Beasts (Low-Level) – Ordinary creatures with no special abilities. Examples: Dire Wolves, Razor Boars, Venomous Vipers.
Profound Beasts (Mid-Level) – Beasts with enhanced speed, agility, and instincts. Examples: Shadow Panthers, Ironhide Bears.
Arcane Beasts (High-Level) – Creatures infused with Qi, possessing elemental abilities. Examples: Ember Basilisks, Thunderclaw Bulls.
Tyrant Beasts (Peak-Level) – Rare, intelligent beasts with innate Qi cores. Examples: Phantom Tigers, Crimson Sky Rocs.
Abyssal Beasts (Boss-Level) – Monstrous creatures linked to ancient bloodlines and dark energy. Examples: Nether Hydra, Devourer Dragon.
Celestial Beasts (Legendary-Level) – Beasts of legend, surpassing Heavenly Martial Artists. Examples: Moonlit Nine-Tailed Fox.
Celestial Beasts were believed to have gone extinct, existing only in myths.
Jin Mo initially thought they would start by hunting small animals in the outer layer, but his father dashed forward with incredible speed, moving like a wild beast himself. Jin Mo gritted his teeth and sprinted after him, pushing himself to match his father's pace.
It felt like his father wasn't even running—he was gliding effortlessly through the terrain. Jin Mo did his best to keep up, his muscles burning as his heart pounded in his chest. To his surprise, his father glanced back with a hint of approval in his eyes. He was testing Jin Mo's speed.
Ding!
[Agility +1]
A notification popped up in Jin Mo's vision. He smirked. Looks like I'm pushing my body beyond its limits.
Despite his best efforts, he started to lag behind. The deeper they went into the forest, the denser the trees became. He quickly realized they had ventured into the middle layer, where Mortal Beasts roamed freely.
Suddenly, his father slowed down and leaped onto a thick tree branch, his movements precise and controlled. Jin Mo followed suit, landing beside him, slightly out of breath.
His father pointed ahead. "Go. Kill that beast."
Jin Mo's eyes followed his father's direction and landed on a creature lurking among the foliage—a large, muscular wolf with dark fur and glowing yellow eyes. A Dire Wolf, he realized. His heartbeat quickened in excitement. He had never hunted a beast before.
This was his first true test.
Jin Mo tightened his grip on his sword. "Yes, sir."
With a deep breath, he descended from the branch, eyes locked onto his target. The hunt had begun.
