System overdrive

"Ugh, my head hurts," I groaned, opening my eyes to a cloudless night sky. The stars twinkled above, the moon casting its pale light over the world.

I blankly stared at the beautiful scenery of this fantasy world.

"I guess I'm alive again, huh?" That's too much death and life for one person.

~Sigh~ A deal with the devil huh. I sure made one. It's no time to relax, I have no time on my hand, I have to find REVIVE before others do.

I sat up and scanned my surroundings. Thankfully I wasn't in a life threatening situation...again.

Sand surrounded me and an endless ocean stretched in front of me. It wasn't a hard puzzle to piece together.

"Looks like I was killed and thrown ashore. At least I can control my body this time," I said, looking at my unfamiliar hand. It was almost like my original one back on Earth, except now I had tattoos.

I recognized the body as the same one I possessed earlier. I touched my body, especially my forehead where the bullet had passed through—it was patched up.

"So, this person really died, huh?" I couldn't help but feel pity for him even though I died with him. Death wasn't exactly pleasant. He had only one chance on like me.

"Argh" I groaned as I stretched. My entire body ached, and my muscles felt sore like they'd been twisted in unnatural ways.

I got dizzy again and slumped back onto the sand, staring at the half-moon above.

"Is this how reincarnation really is?" Novels never mentioned that it would take this much tole on the person. I feel drained of energy but physically and mentally.

Just as I was contemplating my situation, a blue translucent screen appeared in front of me.

[System Synchronizing with ---'s Player.]

"Oh? My own system," I muttered, too weak to feel any real excitement. I have no time to get excited, I should focus on my main aim of coming here– saving my mom and rewriting my past.

I noticed any information about that OMNI is always censored. I guess I'm not strong enough.

Just as I wanted to know if I would feel any different after the system's synchronization was done a loud warning alarm rang.

Another screen popped untop of the other, but this was a red screen.

[System Warning: A soul fragment has been detected in the Player's body. Erasing the soul will erase all memories of the body. Synchronize with the soul or erase it?]

A soul? Maybe the body's previous owner? Is this luck? This saves me the stress of having to learn about this world and magic. I would make good use of his memory.

He seems like an important person so he should have some good amount of information stored there.

"Yes, synchronize with the soul." I agreed.

[Command Detected. Synchronizing with Soul Fragment.]

The system's robotic voice sounded like the ones you hear in video games, giving instructions. Almost immediately, a series of red warnings filled my vision.

[WARNING! Soul Fragment Refusing Submissiveness!]

[WARNING! Soul Fragment Is Dominant!]

[WARNING! Soul Fragment Creating Its Own Consciousness!]

[WARNING! An Undetected Power Has Been Found in the Soul Fragment.]

[WARNING! System Override!]

[WARNING! System Override!]

[WARNING! System Override!]

Before I could even process what was happening, a sharp headache shot to my brain like sniper. I was left with tinnitus (ear ringing) in my both ears.

My vision got blurry as I got dizzy. It was painful enough for me to pass out.

When I woke up again, though I was weak I felt better, and silently prayed I hadn't died a third time.

The sky had turned orange the sun was about to rise. I was still lying in the same spot I had passed out earlier.

"Looks like I didn't die again," I heaved a sigh of relief as I wondered how long I was out for.

"System, system," I croaked, my throat dry from hours without water. There was no pain, and so was energy.

Then, a voice echoed in my head. But this time, it wasn't the system's robotic tone—it was the voice of a man, very human-like.

[Who are you and why are you in my body?!] It was a voice almost similar to the shadowy OMNI. It was commanding and mostly intimidating. I... was scared.

[If it turns out you're a soul shifter, I will kill you.] He added.

Great, I think I should have just stuck with my first death. I said wondering how many time I'm going to die in this new world.
