Sarah's heart skipped a beat as she walked into the conference room for the project briefing. She had been expecting a routine meeting, but instead, she was surprised to see Jake already seated, his eyes locked onto hers with a warm smile.
"Good morning, everyone," Michael, the creative director, began. "Today, we're launching a major campaign for our new client, Smith & Co. It's a high-profile account, and we need to deliver exceptional results."
As Michael outlined the project details, Sarah's gaze drifted to Jake, who was scribbling notes on his pad. She couldn't help but notice the way his hair curled slightly at the nape of his neck or the way his eyes crinkled at the corners as he listened intently.
"...and Sarah, I'd like you to lead the design team, working closely with Jake, who will handle the copywriting and strategy," Michael concluded.
Sarah's pulse quickened as she met Jake's gaze. Working together on a high-profile project would mean spending a lot of time together, and she wasn't sure if she was ready for that level of closeness.
As the meeting adjourned, Jake fell into step beside her, his long strides matching hers. "So, partner, what do you think? Ready to create some magic?"
Sarah smiled, trying to play it cool despite the butterflies in her stomach. "I'm always up for a challenge. But we need to establish some ground rules – we can't let our personal feelings get in the way of the project."
Jake raised an eyebrow, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Personal feelings, huh? I wasn't aware we had any."
Sarah's face flushed as she realized her mistake. "I just meant that we need to maintain a professional relationship, that's all."
Jake chuckled, his voice low and husky. "Don't worry, Sarah. I can keep things professional...for now, at least."
The innuendo in his tone sent a shiver down Sarah's spine. She knew she had to tread carefully – the project's success, and her own heart, depended on it.
