Sarah walked into the coffee shop, looking forward to a much-needed caffeine boost before her meeting with Jake. As she waited in line, her eyes scanned the crowded room, searching for a familiar face. That's when she saw him - Jake, sitting at a small table by the window, laughing and chatting with a beautiful woman.
Sarah's heart sank as she felt a pang of jealousy. Who was this woman? And why was Jake being so friendly with her? She tried to push the thoughts aside, telling herself she was overreacting. But as she watched Jake touch the woman's arm, his eyes locked onto hers, Sarah felt a surge of hurt and anger.
Without waiting for her coffee, Sarah turned and walked out of the shop, her mind racing with questions. Was Jake seeing someone else? Had he been playing her all along?
As she walked back to the office, Sarah felt a sense of distance growing between her and Jake. She couldn't shake off the image of him with that woman, and it made her question everything.
When Jake arrived at their meeting, Sarah was cold and distant, her usual warmth and smile nowhere to be found. Jake seemed taken aback by her behavior, but Sarah didn't care. She was hurt, and she didn't know how to process her emotions.
As they worked on their project, the tension between them was palpable. Jake tried to make small talk, but Sarah was monosyllabic, her responses curt and brief. Jake seemed to sense that something was wrong, but Sarah wasn't ready to talk about it.
As the day drew to a close, Jake walked Sarah back to her desk, his eyes searching for answers. "Hey, is everything okay?" he asked, his voice low and concerned. "You seem a little...off."
Sarah shrugged, trying to brush off her emotions. "I'm fine, Jake. Just stressed with work, that's all."
Jake nodded, but Sarah could tell he didn't believe her. As he walked away, Sarah felt a pang of regret. Maybe she had overreacted. Maybe there was a reasonable explanation for what she had seen.
But as she sat at her desk, staring blankly at her computer screen, Sarah couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off. And she wasn't sure if she was ready to forgive Jake just yet.
