He begged and pleaded, but Veer remained stone-cold until the very end. This was his parting lesson to the people of his camp—people he had once considered family. If they allowed evil to persist, it would grow into something so monstrous that they would one day wish they had acted with courage when they had the chance.

"Do you know why I respected you so much?" Veer knelt beside the man, his voice low yet sharp. "Even knowing how you treated people in the camp, I still respected you. I never told you, but I think you should know before you go to hell." He leaned in closer, his breath hot against the man's ear. "I wasn't sure about the others, but I knew you would turn eventually. You were nothing more than a pawn, a tool I could use to show the rest what happens when someone commits unforgivable acts. I think neither of us expected this day to come so soon, right?"
