Shadows in the Night

With his boots hardly making a sound against the rocky ground, Vaidya walked steadily. He had to rely only on his night vision goggles to guide him since the moonlight was no longer there, but the gadget had aged. Over time, the battery's capacity had steadily decreased, requiring him to accelerate more slowly and deliberately.

The area was populated with zombies who wandered aimlessly between the overgrown fields and scattered ruins. Strangely, there didn't seem to be as many of them as usual. Vaidya dismissed it as good fortune and didn't think about it.

He slipped from one bush to another, slicing off heads with swift, precise movements. With each kill, he remained undetected, using the darkness to his advantage. Once he was in the zone, it was easier for him to perceive his surroundings, moving with an almost predatory grace.
