Maxwell stood motionless, entranced, his thoughts seemingly distant, deaf to my words.
"Grace, I'd sacrifice everything for you."
I responded firmly, my tone unwavering. "That's not what I want!" My gaze locked with his, steadfast. "What of your aspirations? Where's your professional integrity?"
"You've dedicated over a decade to becoming a captain. Are you truly ready to discard it all?"
"For someone who no longer cares for you? For an uncertain future? Is it worth abandoning all you've accomplished?"
Maxwell's stare remained fixed, as if consumed by his own fixation. "If I deem it worthwhile, then it is."
I shook my head, my determination growing. "It's futile. Your actions are merely self-serving, an attempt at redemption."
"Our relationship ended half a year ago. It's finished. It has been for some time."
"Go, Maxwell. We're no longer connected. I don't want any further involvement with you."
