Chapter 5

I departed for France.

Upon consulting with the professor, I secured a modest flat close to the university. I severed all ties with Zach, immersing myself in academics and preparing for the entrance examination.

My culinary skills were nonexistent, so I subsisted mainly on bread. One day, while purchasing bread, Zach appeared unexpectedly before me.

He looked as impeccable as ever, but his demeanor was far from composed. His keen gaze fell on the loaf I held.

"Is this your daily sustenance?" he inquired, his voice tinged with criticism.

I disregarded him and paid for my bread, intent on departing. However, Zach obstructed my path. His tone grew confrontational.

"Yvette, I'm not opposed to your desire to explore the world or reside in France. But mentioning divorce was unnecessary, and ignoring my calls was uncalled for!"

His relentless words intensified my headache. I attempted to sidestep him, but he grasped my arm, his patience wearing thin.
