Was it possible she had discovered his infidelity? he wondered.

It seemed unlikely.

Anxious, he hastily drove to my workplace, breaking speed limits along the way. Upon arrival, however, he learned I was no longer in charge and a new executive had already taken the helm.

The truth struck him with devastating force. An overwhelming sense of dread engulfed him at that moment.

Every occurrence now made him feel as though I had never been part of his existence.

Is there a chance I'll vanish from her life entirely?

Unthinkable. Rowan couldn't bear to entertain the idea.

In desperation, he contacted law enforcement to report his wife's disappearance.

Several days later, the authorities informed him that a female body had been retrieved from a secluded lake near the outskirts. The remains were unidentifiable, waterlogged beyond recognition and emitting a pungent aquatic scent.
