The Collapse of Altherion

The companions burst through the portal just as the Corrupted Citadel began to crumble behind them. The sickly red and black hues of Altherion's fractured skies dimmed in the distance, though the faint whispers of despair clung to their minds like cobwebs. They stumbled into the soft glow of the crystalline lake, a stark contrast to the grim wasteland they had just escaped. Kaelis fell to her knees, her golden tails draped around her, her breathing shallow. "That... thing," she muttered, clutching her head. "Its voice is still in my ears.

Orion planted their staff into the ground, their glowing white eyes scanning the shaken group. "The Rift's influence lingers, but its grip has been weakened.

The artifact you recovered will help stabilize the multiverse, but the scars of Altherion will not fade so easily. Erynn held the crystalline sphere close, its gentle blue glow offering some solace. "We've got the artifact, but I feel like we barely made it out alive. If this is what the Rift's influence does to an entire realm... what happens if it spreads to others? Braegor, still gripping his battle-worn axe, growled under his breath.

Then we stop it here and now. No more hesitating, no more second-guessing. If we don't stand firm, everything falls. Isla sheathed her daggers, pacing near the edge of the lake. "Easier said than done. That citadel was alive, Braegor. Alive. And it tried to eat us. How do you fight something like that? Orion turned, their serene voice cutting through the tension. "By understanding that the Rift thrives on doubt and despair. What it seeks to destroy most is not your body, but your spirit." They paused, their glowing eyes narrowing. "The Rift will retaliate. We must prepare for what lies ahead."

As the group set up camp by the crystalline lake, a rare moment of calm settled over them. The gentle hum of the artifact in Erynn's possession seemed to soothe the oppressive weight of Altherion's corruption. Kaelis sat by the campfire, staring into the flames. Her tails curled protectively around her. "I thought I was stronger," she admitted quietly. "But back there... those whispers, Erynn sat beside her, his expression soft. "No one's immune to the Rift's tricks, Kaelis. It knows how to twist our fears into weapons.

But you fought through it, and that makes you strong. Kaelis glanced at him, her ears twitching. "What if the Rift's right? What if I'm not enough?Braegor, sharpening his axe a few feet away, snorted. "Enough of that. You're here, aren't you? Still breathing, still fighting. That's all that matters. Isla leaned against a nearby tree, her sharp gaze focused on the stars. "The Rift's whispers... they weren't all lies," she muttered, almost to herself. "It said I'd abandon all of you when things got too hard.

And it wasn't wrong. I've walked away before. From battles, from people... from family. Orion approached, their celestial presence calming. "The Rift twists truths into weapons. It shows you the shadow of your past to make you doubt your present. You are not bound to the mistakes you've made, Isla. None of you are. The group fell into a contemplative silence, each lost in their own thoughts. The campfire crackled softly, its warmth a small comfort in the growing darkness of their journey.

The calm was short-lived. As the first light of dawn crept over the horizon, the ground beneath the companions began to tremble. The crystalline lake rippled violently, its gentle hum replaced by a deep, resonant growl. Orion stood abruptly, their staff glowing. "It's the Rift. It's retaliating. Before anyone could react, tendrils of black energy erupted from the lake, twisting and writhing like living shadows. The companions scrambled to their feet, weapons drawn.Form up!" Braegor shouted, positioning himself in front of the group.

The tendrils coalesced into a towering figure, its form shifting and unstable. Its eyes burned with crimson light, and its voice echoed like a thousand whispers overlapping. You dare defy the Rift? "it hissed, its words reverberating through the air. "You cannot escape its reach. All will fall to its embrace. Isla smirked, flipping a dagger in her hand. "Big words for a blob of shadow. Let's see if you can back them up. The battle erupted with ferocity. The shadowy figure lashed out with its tendrils, striking with devastating force.

Braegor met its attacks head on, his axe glowing faintly as it cleaved through the dark energy. Kaelis darted around the battlefield, her tails glowing as she summoned bursts of golden fire to burn away the shadows. Erynn focused on the artifact, channeling its light to create protective barriers around his allies. Keep it off, Erynn! "Orion commanded, their staff radiating celestial light. "The artifact is our only hope against this manifestation. The creature roared, its form shifting and splitting into smaller, faster entities. Isla cursed under her breath as one lunged at her, its claws narrowly missing her shoulder.

She retaliated with precision, her daggers finding their mark. Kaelis unleashed a wave of fire, engulfing several of the smaller entities. "There's too many of them! she shouted. Orion raised their staff, their voice calm but commanding. "Erynn, the artifact. Use it now. Erynn hesitated, the weight of the artifact in his hands. "But what if I won't fail?" Orion interrupted, their glowing eyes steady. "Trust in yourself and in us.

Taking a deep breath, Erynn held the artifact aloft. Its blue light intensified, pushing back the shadows. With a burst of energy, a wave of radiant light exploded from the artifact, washing over the battlefield. The shadowy entities dissolved, their anguished cries fading into silence. The towering figure writhed, its form unraveling as the light consumed it.This isn't over," it hissed before vanishing into the ether.

As the battlefield grew quiet, the companions regrouped, their exhaustion evident. The crystalline lake returned to its serene state, the faint hum of the artifact resonating in harmony. Orion turned to Erynn, their expression unreadable. "You've proven yourself capable, Erynn. The artifact responds to your will. But this was only a fraction of the Rift's power.Braegor leaned on his axe, his voice gruff. "If that was just a taste, we'd better be ready for the full course.Kaelis sat on a nearby rock, her tails flicking nervously. "The Rift isn't just a force; it's alive. It's learning, adapting.

And it knows we're coming for it. Isla crossed her arms, her expression defiant. "Good. Let it come. We've got two artifacts now, and we're not stopping until we get the third. Orion nodded, their staff glowing faintly. "The final artifact lies in the Realm of Eternis, a domain untouched by time. But the Rift's influence is spreading. Every moment we delay, it grows stronger. Erynn looked at the artifact in his hands, its light steady and unwavering.

Then we can't waste any more time. The Rift won't wait for us to be ready. The companions exchanged determined glances, their resolve solidified. They had faced the worst Altherion had to offer and emerged stronger. But the true battle was still ahead. Their journey was far from over. The Rift was watching, waiting, and plotting its next move. But as the companions set their sights on Eternis, they knew one thing for certain: together, they would face whatever came next for the multiverse. For each other. And for the hope that light could still prevail against the darkness.
