Chapter 84: Demon Dean against the Superheroes(Part2)
————————————————————
What's the best way to deal with speedsters? Captain Cold had something to say, and of course, it was to stop them from running.
The Dimension Demon had not yet developed ice-type abilities, but Dean's system warehouse had many, many cryogenic pulse guns. After Mr. Freeze went into cryogenic sleep, Dean looted all his assets—except for the cryogenic armor.
Dean took out his cryogenic pulse gun and pointed it at Black Lightning's location. "The first option is to freeze the field."
A flat blue light shot out, causing a large amount of controlled moving AOE damage. Black Lightning accidentally slipped on the sole of his foot, retreating from his top-speed state. He stuck his butt out and was sealed by Dean's ice.
Dean knew that if it were Barry, pure ice wouldn't be able to trap him. But he still had a trick up his sleeve. The special frequency that Mr. Freeze adjusted to deal with the Dimension Demons could cause the target's cells to become necrotic due to freezing. That way, even if a speedster could heal himself, it would still take a long time.
The Flash, watching the live broadcast from the observation tower, swung his legs. "Suddenly, I feel so cold."
Because of the sheer speed, Black Lightning's defeat took only seconds, and no one else had time to support him.
"Don't fight alone. Trigon are not n enemy that can be defeated alone." Nightwing looked anxious. He had the heart to take command and the ability, but few of the heroes present listened to him.
Firestorm could switch controllers at any time, and now the more rational Jason took the lead. "Nightwing, we also know that cooperation is more powerful, but we're not familiar with it yet. Working together would interfere with each other."
Only then did Nightwing realize he had been thinking wrong. They weren't a team yet—they still needed to fight to get along.
Nightwing raised his sword. "Then find a hero you're familiar with and cooperate!"
At that moment, Black Canary found Nightwing. "Nightwing, we have a plan…"
Firestorm switched to Leonard, who was better at fighting, energy waves brewing in his palms. "Elemental Girl, let's go together."
The panicked Elemental Girl immediately found her backbone. "Okay! Firestorm, I listen to you!"
This girl had just become a hero and had a serious lack of independent opinions. Because of this, she was more likely to follow orders—and her abilities matched well with Firestorm's.
Elemental Girl's body was entirely composed of inorganic matter. She could freely change the density and size of her body, so she preferred close combat, while Firestorm attacked Dean by launching energy waves.
"Sorry, Mr. Devil!"
Elemental Girl's voice sounded like an animated character's as her palm suddenly turned into a huge rock, slamming toward Dean.
Facing the pressing "Five Finger Mountain," Dean wielded the Changhong Sword with sword-control skills. "Are the elements united? Let me break them with one sword!"
The rainbow sword light crisscrossed, cutting Elemental Girl's palm into several sections. At the same time, he tapped the Omnitrix logo on his chest and instantly transformed into the Diamond Head, absorbing Firestorm's energy wave.
Currently, only the first-generation heroes had been unlocked in the Omnitrix. Their abilities weren't very strong, but they were comprehensive enough.
"Firestorm, aren't you able to transform matter freely? Try to see if you can transform this!"
Dean slammed his arms to the ground, and huge crystal clusters began growing wildly from the point he touched, tightly wrapping Elemental Girl within them.
Firestorm tried to use his abilities against the crystal clusters, but there was a prerequisite for the Firestorm Matrix to change the atomic arrangement—it required understanding the substance.
Firestorm cursed angrily. "Damn it, Jason! Why can't I transform these diamonds?"
Jason was helpless. "These crystals look like diamonds, but they're actually some kind of hard crystal. There's no similar material on Earth. I suspect it comes from aliens. The Firestorm Matrix can't transform it."
Dean took four columnar crystals from his back and threw them at Firestorm. The crystal columns penetrated Firestorm's limbs, pinning him firmly to the crystal wall.
Dean stepped closer to Firestorm. "Your abilities are still useful. I'll spare your life for now."
The flames above Firestorm burned more intensely, erupting with immense heat. Unfortunately, the high temperature had no effect on the Diamond Head's crystal body, leaving Firestorm powerless and furious.
At that moment, a dark shadow flashed across Dean's left side.
"Feel the power of my bear!"
The shadow of a black bear appeared behind Vixen and merged into her body, allowing her to knock the Diamond Head staggering with a powerful claw strike. This woman could gain the power of any animal on Earth by touching the necklace around her neck, given to her family by the spider god Anansi. In a sense, her necklace was very similar to the Omnitrix—but there was one key difference.
The animals Vixen could transform into were limited to Earth's creatures. However, humans were also a type of animal. In other words, Vixen could also gain the abilities of other superhumans through her necklace, and that's exactly what she did.
"Black Lightning, lend me your ability!"
Vixen let out a bear's roar. At the same time, she was blessed with the power of a bear, the speed of a speedster, and the flight of an eagle.
In this state, Vixen was faster than Black Lightning. The frozen field had no effect on her, she could fly, and she was so powerful that the Diamond Head couldn't do anything to stop her.
Dean saw himself steadily retreating under Vixen's high-speed offensive, but he did not panic at all.
"Magic props? I have them too!"
Dean transformed back into a Dimension Demon, took out the Chicken Talisman, and unleashed a massive wave of telepathic power that instantly enveloped the entire battlefield.
The strength of the talisman was directly related to the user's own power—the stronger the user, the stronger the talisman. In his human state, Dean's use of the Chicken Talisman could only control objects within a fifty-meter radius, with a weight limit of under a hundred kilograms per item. But in his Dimension Demon state, his telekinesis covered the entire battlefield.
Sensing Vixen's location through his mind power, Dean's consciousness focused.
Vixen felt the invisible force pressing in from all around but remained unfazed. "This level of power can't restrain an eagle in the sky!"
Dean smiled slightly. "But my target was never you."
With a sharp snap, the necklace on Vixen's chest was torn off by telekinesis. Without it, all her powers vanished, and she reverted to an ordinary mortal.
Vixen was stunned. The necklace was deeply connected to her soul—physically removing it was impossible. Yet, the Dimension Demon's telekinesis had severed that connection.
Opening his massive palms, Dean caught the falling Spider God Necklace. As he held it, an unexpected desire stirred from deep within him, surprising him. "An unexpected surprise. I thought I had to catch Cheetah."
The reason Dean said this was that he could sense the Original Power within the necklace. And there was only one Original Power tied to animals—The Red of All Living Beings.
Though the necklace contained only a small portion of the Red's power, that was ideal for Dean. Absorbing too much would trigger the Red's retaliation, but the amount within the necklace was just right.
After pocketing the loot, Dean turned his gaze toward the remaining heroes. "Aren't you going to make a move?"
Black Canary flipped her golden hair. "Why rush? Nightwing and I compared notes. You can't maintain this form for long."
At that moment, Dean had only three minutes left in his transformation.
Dean suddenly nodded in realization. "I see… You're trying to stall until I revert to human form? A solid strategy. But there's just one problem.
Can you last that long?"
Dean controlled the Changhong Sword and charged toward Black Canary. A trident, carved with a simple yet ancient design, blocked the Changhong Sword mid-flight. The blue-skinned figure standing in front of Dean slowly lifted his head.
"Devil, your opponent is me."
The Changhong Sword was the sharpest among the Seven Swords, yet it couldn't leave so much as a scratch on the trident.
"Satan's weapon?" Dean recognized it immediately. "No wonder it suppresses my equipment. But the user isn't Satan. Blue Devil, you're just a mortal wearing a demon's skin. You can't wield the true power of that weapon."
A true artifact of Hell's Lord wouldn't just be unbreakable—it wouldn't look rusted either. There was only one explanation for this: the artifact was suppressing its true nature. The trident hadn't acknowledged Blue Devil as its rightful wielder.
Dean had struck a nerve. Blue Devil was just an ordinary man fused with a demon's skin. He wasn't a true demon, so the weapon hadn't accepted him. Yet, even knowing this, he held his ground.
"You're right, devil. But that doesn't stop me from doing my duty. I will drive all demons and devils from this world—every last one!"
With a roar, Blue Devil activated the special kinetic energy system in his suit, amplifying his strength twentyfold—enough to wrestle with the Dimension Demon.
"Now!"
Black Canary appeared at the Dimension Demon's flank. "Blue Devil, cover your ears—!"
A sharp, piercing sonic scream erupted from her mouth, shattering everything in its path. Even with his Dimension Demon physique, Dean was left reeling, dizzy from the attack.
And the heroes' assault didn't stop there.
At the same moment Canary's sonic blast struck, three arrows hit the Dimension Demon's eyes, exploding into a dazzling flash of light.
Everyone knew that a Sun Fist was the strongest crowd-control technique. Whether you were Trigon, the God of Destruction, or even Majin Buu, a direct flash to the eyes would leave you stunned for at least a few seconds.
The Dimension Demon was no exception. Disoriented, Dean instinctively closed his six eyes and covered his ears.
A dark shadow swooped down from above—Nightwing. Just like the hero in a legend who slays the demon king, he held an exorcism sword and drove it straight into the Dimension Demon's heart.
A searing, unbearable pain surged through Dean. He roared, hurling Nightwing away as magma-hot blood dripped from the protruding sword tip, sizzling as it hit the ground.
Nightwing slammed into the crystal wall near Firestorm. Even with his Kevlar suit absorbing some of the impact, several of his bones fractured upon impact.
But he didn't care about the pain.
He, along with the other conscious heroes, watched Dean intently—waiting, tense and silent.
The Dimension Demon gripped the hilt of the sword embedded in his back and slowly pulled the Exorcism Sword out, letting more blood spill onto the ground.
"Well done, heroes."
Nightwing's heart skipped a beat.
Anyone familiar with games knew that when an opponent typed good game, it usually meant one thing—they were about to wipe the floor with you.
The Dimension Demon slowly stood up. As he did, his wounds sealed themselves, and even the blood that had dripped onto the ground rose back into his body.
Holding the Exorcism Sword in his palm, Dean flashed a cruel smile at Nightwing. "You should try a bigger sword next time. This one might kill a raven, but it won't kill me."
And as long as Dean wasn't dead, the Horse Talisman would fully restore him.
With a pang, he crushed the Exorcism Sword into shards and let them scatter to the ground.
One minute remained before his transformation ended.
At that moment, despair set in.
Blue Devil took a deep breath. "There's still a chance. My trident should be able to hurt him."
As soon as the words left his mouth, the trident flew from his grip—straight into the Dimension Demon's hands.
"This weapon suits my current image."
Dean engulfed the trident in hellfire, and it transformed before their eyes, glowing with new power.
Seeing Black Canary inhale sharply, Dean immediately pulled an item from his storage—one of his freshly plundered trophies.
"Want to try that again?"
Nightwing's eyes widened in horror when he saw the object. He shouted to Black Canary, "Run!"
But it was too late.
Black Canary's ability relied on her voice. The simplest way to counter her? Make sure she couldn't scream.
A tear gas grenade—Bat-tech—landed at her feet, bursting into a thick cloud of choking fumes. The powerful irritant stung her lungs and throat, rendering her unable to breathe properly, let alone unleash a sonic attack. She collapsed to the ground, completely incapacitated.
"Dinah!"
Green Arrow's eyes blazed with fury. He nocked three arrows and fired them in rapid succession, all perfectly aligned. Dean caught one with his hands and bit down on the third with his teeth.
"Tsk. Still resisting? I don't have time to keep playing with you."
Dean's gaze lifted to a drone hovering above them.
The Justice League was watching.
With a simple motion of telekinesis, he lifted all the heroes into the air, suspending them helplessly. And just as he did, the Omnitrix's transformation timer hit zero.
Dean reverted to his human form, crossed his arms behind his back, and held the captive heroes aloft.
"Give me Pandora's Box," he said, his voice ringing with finality. "Or you'll never see them again."
Taking out the Life Tree Seed, he activated teleportation—and in a blink, he and the heroes vanished.
---
Watchtower, Hall of Justice.
Bang!
Aquaman slammed his fist into the alloy table, leaving a dent. "This is a direct challenge to the League. And we just watched it happen?"
The Flash stared at the screen, replaying the final moments of the transmission. Something's off. He could feel it—but he couldn't pinpoint what.
Wonder Woman's expression was dark with worry. She wasn't just concerned for Superman—she was deeply troubled by Dean's descent. She had seen great potential in the young man, even giving him the glasses Superman had once entrusted to her.
She had never expected it to lead to this.
Green Lantern flipped rapidly through the database of his Power Ring. "You said that watch of his is alien tech, right? Then why can't I find anything about it? Something that powerful should be classified as contraband."
"The answer's simple," a voice drawled from the teleportation chamber.
Constantine stood there, leaning against the wall for support, looking nauseated.
"It's not from this universe."
He groaned and gripped his stomach. "Bloody hell, can we please improve that teleportation system? I feel like a pair of lace panties tossed into a washing machine on full spin. Makes me wanna… urghhh~
No one mocked Constantine for his less-than-dignified entrance.
No one underestimated his skills. Just like no one overestimated his morals.
Wonder Woman turned to him. "What do you mean it's not from this universe?"
Constantine wiped his face, then dropped himself into Batman's seat.
"I didn't join the brawl with the kid," he admitted. "Not my style. I get by on brains and connections, not reckless heroics."
His expression hardened.
"I lead the Justice League Dark now. One of our members, Madame Xanadu, has the ability to divine the future.
So I asked her about Dean…"
---
In the dim divination room, a single flickering light cast shadows over the table, where a full deck of tarot cards lay before Madame Xanadu.
She drew the first card.
[The Devil]
She analyzed it calmly. "The Devil's fire will burn the earth, and the heroes will vanish without a trace."
She turned over the second card.
[Flowers]
"A flower that can only bloom in purgatory. What does the new blossom on the other shore represent?"
The third card.
[Mirrors]
"Mirrors reflect opposing images… but they can also deceive the eye."
The fourth.
[Lies]
"White lies are sometimes necessary, but all lies will eventually be exposed."
So far, the tarot spread lacked any clear connection. Madame Xanadu frowned, hesitated, and then flipped the fifth card.
Her expression immediately shifted to one of shock.
Constantine's face darkened. "If it's a future of total devastation, don't say it."
Madame Xanadu shook her head. "Prophecies cannot be avoided. Whether spoken or not, they will come to pass. I only glimpse through the fog of fate… but in all my thousands of years, this is the first time I have ever seen this happen."
The fifth card was
[Blank]
Fate itself was uncertain.
Constantine tossed the blank tarot card onto the Justice League's table.
"The second I saw this, I knew you were keeping something from me. So, I left the kid to fend for himself and came straight here. Tell me what you know, so I can help."
His voice was sharp, more a demand than a request.
"This isn't just a Justice League issue anymore. We have the right to know!"
Green Lantern glanced at the others, then finally stood. "I'm sorry, but I have no comment at this time."
Constantine scoffed. "No comment? Ha. Then I'll make my own damn guess!"
His eyes locked onto the Flash.
"There's only one reason for fate to become unpredictable—the timeline's been disrupted. And when that happens, it's always one of two things: you, Flash… or some other speedster."
With a string of curses, Constantine turned and stormed out.
Silence fell over the League.
"…Well, at least he didn't guess it exactly."
Green Lantern exhaled, then turned on his Power Ring, projecting a recording onto the Wall of Origin.
Across the universe, the Wall of Origin had turned transparent. From behind it, massive tubular structures extended into unknown voids, flickering with tiny points of light.
Secret Forest Realm.
Beneath the shade of a massive tree, Dean stood in contemplation. Nearby, Poison Ivy lazily swung on a net of ivy vines.
"The prophecies were right," she mused, watching him with amusement. "Step by step, you're becoming the Great Demon."
Dean didn't bother to refute her. His gaze remained fixed on the white fruits hanging from the tree.
"How long until they wake up?" he asked.
Ivy smirked. "As long as you will it… they'll never wake up."
Dean's lips curled slightly. "Good. That's a relief."
Stretching his arms, he sighed. "I've got more work to do."
Poison Ivy's eyes gleamed with excitement. "You're going after the Justice League? Count me in!"
Dean shook his head. "No."
His expression turned distant.
"He's much harder to deal with than the Justice League."
His thoughts sharpened.
Batman… Superman… You won't waste my efforts.
Because only magic can defeat magic.
And only outsiders can defeat… "outsiders."
