After the intense battle with Zirak and the dark forces of the Voidbringer, Kaion and Raya found themselves standing in the midst of a ruined battlefield, panting and bruised, but alive. They had done it. The fight wasn't over yet, but they had won this round. And as the dust settled, Kaion couldn't help but crack a smile.
"You know, I always thought our fights would end with one of us actually winning," Kaion said, wiping the sweat off his brow.
Raya, who was in the middle of shaking off the dirt from her armor, shot him a glare. "Oh, so now you think you're the hero? You're lucky I showed up to save your butt."
Kaion chuckled, his trademark grin spreading across his face. "Lucky? I'm the one who saved you from getting fried earlier."
"You did not save me!" Raya retorted, hands on her hips. "I was totally fine."
"Sure," Kaion said with a wink. "If by 'fine' you mean 'crispy.'"
Raya rolled her eyes but couldn't suppress the smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "You're impossible. Sometimes I wonder why I bother."
"Because I'm awesome?" Kaion offered, clearly proud of himself.
"Maybe," Raya said, feigning seriousness, "but mostly because you're the only one who can make me laugh even when we're about to die."
"Ah, so it's my charm," Kaion said dramatically, throwing an arm over his chest. "I knew it."
"You're ridiculous," Raya said, laughing. But then her expression shifted to something more serious. "Kaion… we still have a long way to go."
Kaion sobered for a moment, nodding. "I know. But we're not alone. We've got each other. And we've got something that Zirak doesn't have."
Raya raised an eyebrow. "What's that?"
Kaion gave her a wink. "The power of sheer, unadulterated awesomeness."
Raya couldn't help but laugh, shaking her head. "You're an idiot. But I guess that's why I like you."
"Well, someone has to keep things interesting," Kaion said, his grin never wavering.
Just then, a small alien creature appeared from behind a pile of rubble, its oversized ears twitching nervously. Grin, ever the oddball, peeked out and saw them. "Well, look at you two. I thought you were both done for. But then again, I guess I should've known. You two have the dumbest luck."
"I prefer to think of it as skill," Kaion said with a grin.
"Right, because the sheer dumb luck of surviving that fight was definitely skill," Grin said, rolling his eyes. "Well, whatever it is, you two are lucky. But you know, I think you're going to need a lot more than 'luck' to take on whatever comes next."
Kaion turned to Raya, his expression softening. "Then let's be ready."
