I sacrificed my sight to save Adam. He solemnly swore to always be my eyes and never leave me.
I conscientiously follow the doctor's advice. On the day my vision recovered, I couldn't wait to rush home to share this news.
What greeted me was the scene of Adam and his female assistant entangled on my bed. The woman was panting softly, and Adam was mesmerized as he gasped for breath and called out the woman's name:
"Adam, why don't you leave that blind old woman? I am the one who is truly suitable for you."
"I know, baby. Don't worry, I'm going to dump her sooner or later."
That night, it snowed heavily.
I was wearing a thin piece of clothing and booked a plane ticket.
The destination of the plane ticket is a place that Adam will never be able to find.
——
After booking my flight, I assumed the pair would conclude their intimate encounter. However, upon returning home with my emotions somewhat settled, I was shocked to find them continuing their passionate exchange in the living room, the air thick with desire.
Adam gazed at Kelly lustfully, biting his lip to remain silent. Kelly deliberately teased him, intensifying his struggle.
"Adam, relax! Helena can't see us," Kelly whispered in his ear, then glanced at me with disdain.
Adam pinched her playfully, cautioning, "Behave, we can't let Helena hear anything unusual."
"But it's thrilling! She's damaged goods, ready for replacement," Kelly smirked, reminding Adam.
Adam, suppressing his voice, looked at me seated across from them. "Should we ask her to fetch it, or should I?"
Kelly provocatively sought Adam's opinion. After some deliberation, Adam agreed to Kelly's suggestion.
"Helena, my throat's sore. Could you bring me the cold medicine from the coffee table?" Adam asked.
I observed Adam's flushed face and unfocused eyes as he clung tightly to Kelly, reluctant to separate.
Struggling to maintain composure, I glanced at the supposed "cold medicine" with a bitter smile, recognizing it as contraception. Adam was asking me to provide them protection.
Feigning blindness, I carefully approached the table, retrieved the box, and walked over.
"Are you ill? Is it serious?" I inquired with feigned concern, my voice quivering unnoticed.
"It's minor, I'll take the medicine and rest," he replied.
As Kelly toyed with him, Adam shot her an angry look, silently urging her to stop. He then took the box from my hand.
"You should sleep early. I'll stay in the guest room to avoid spreading germs."
Adam then lifted Kelly and headed towards the guest room quietly.
After their departure, my eyes welled with tears. Despite my decision to leave, the pain of his betrayal was overwhelming. Adam had broken his promise of loyalty and honesty.
I contacted my mentor.
"Sir, I'm prepared to return to Massachusetts and accept your legacy."
"Are you certain? Once you return, there's no going back. Our village is hidden from the world, inaccessible to outsiders. Can you bear to leave Adam behind?"
Without hesitation, I replied, "I am willing."
