Chapter 10

"Mom, Dad, what brings you here? I realize my mistake now. I shouldn't have stormed out in anger. I'm ready to return home with you."

I gazed at the couple in their fifties before me, suddenly understanding they weren't here for Evelyn.

Prior to being thrown out by the Carter Family's butler, I had left behind some of my hair and money for DNA testing.

The gentleman rushed towards me, his expression hopeful. "You are our daughter!"

His words were a definitive statement.

Vincent, Mrs. Cross, and Evelyn stood motionless.

Evelyn, no longer sobbing in my mother's embrace, dashed over to cling to my father.

"Father, you're mistaken! She's merely a servant with delusions of grandeur. She's always tried to charm wealthy bachelors. How could she possibly be the Carter Family's daughter?"

Nearby, Julian scoffed. "If she's not the Carter's daughter, then are you the one who intentionally caused her harm?
