Her face instantly turned deathly pale.
The confused and bewildered gazes of everyone present darted back and forth between us.
Britta abruptly stood up, her voice sharp but betraying inner fear.
"How could someone without parents like her possibly have gone to those places?"
"She's lying!"
I smiled, resting my chin on my hand. "Then why don't you show everyone the photos?"
"You must have taken some pictures if you went to so many places, right?"
"I... I..."
"Don't tell me you don't have any?"
She grew increasingly flustered and turned to Lucas.
"Astor! What's wrong with your darling?!"
"Isn't this supposed to be my welcome back party? How can you let Fintan bully me like this?"
"Fine, if I'm so unwelcome here, I'll just leave!"
With that, she wiped her eyes and actually ran out.
The scene immediately descended into chaos.
The others urgently pushed Lucas.
"Quick, go after her! What if she gets lost this late at night?"
Lucas's face darkened. He shot me a fierce glare before striding out.
The others also started leaving their seats.
"Sister-in-law, we'll be heading out now," someone said in a lowered voice.
"How dare she target Britta like that? Doesn't she know she's the one who's really the cuckoo in the nest?""
"Jealousy, obviously! Britta's beautiful and cultured, what does she have?"
"She gave Britta a hard time, and in the end, it was her husband who had to smooth things over. How pathetic!"
Their mocking voices faded as they walked away.
In an instant, I was left alone in the spacious private room.
I let out a silent sneer.
I poured myself another shot of liquor.
Tilting my head back, I downed it in one go.
