Chapter 12

Britta's eyes gleamed with cruel satisfaction.

"If I can't have it, neither can you!"

A tsunami of despair and fury washed over me.

I grabbed Britta's hair and slammed her head against the wall with all my might.

One hit was all it took for her to start bleeding.

She screamed, "Help! Murder!"

The hotel room door was yanked open.

Lucas burst in.

Seeing Britta's pitiful state, his eyes bulged with rage.

He pinned me against the wall.

"Vivienne! Have you lost your mind?!"

Behind him, Britta trembled as she touched her forehead, her legs too weak to stand.

"...Astor, I'm so scared."

I shoved him away and fell to my knees.

With shaking hands, I futilely tried to piece the shattered fragments together.

I didn't care that the glass was cutting my fingertips.

But no matter how I tried, the pieces wouldn't fit.

Lucas grabbed my hands.

"Calm down!

"It's broken! You can't put it back together!"

I shuddered violently, tears streaming down my face in silence.
