Chapter 5

Nathan's terrified voice resounded from somewhere off-camera.

"Carol! Are you alright?"

A loud thud followed—a jumble of feet and someone stumbling over the electrical cord.

The broadcast suddenly cut off.

The audience was left in shock. Theories about the incident spread like wildfire online. What had caused Carol to faint? Why had the feed ended so abruptly?

But the most perplexing aspect was the total lack of communication that ensued. Carol's previously active social media profiles went completely silent, and Nathan seemed to have vanished from the internet. This absence only intensified the already burning flames of intrigue.

In the midst of this, my phone buzzed. Nathan's name appeared on the display.

"Claire," he snapped as I answered, his voice raspy, "come to the hospital. Immediately."

"What for?" I replied coldly. "To bid you farewell on your deathbed?"

The response was immediate—a violent bout of coughing on his end.
