I couldn't contain myself. A harsh chuckle escaped my lips.
"Nathan, do you want to know why I'm still breathing?" I inquired, my tone icy. "It's because I grasped the dangers. I cautioned you repeatedly, but you disregarded my warnings. You were determined to see me behind bars. I told you then—you'd answer for it with your life."
His expression crumbled.
"And now you're standing here, pleading for my compassion? Do you truly believe you've earned it?"
Nathan lost control.
"Why should I endure this torment while you emerge unscathed?" he bellowed. His voice was rough, filled with fury. "If it weren't for your influence, Carol would never have concocted that foolish scheme! I wouldn't be in this predicament!"
Without warning, he produced a blade from his pocket and charged at me, his actions driven by desperation.
I reacted on impulse, flinging the popcorn container at his face and darting down the corridor.
