My frequent glances at my phone soon drew the man's displeasure:
"Vivienne, you've always been pestering me to see the room I grew up in. Now that you're here, why have you gone mute?"
"Hm? It's nice."
My irrelevant answer caused Nolan's brow to furrow.
"You keep looking at your phone. Is there something interesting in there?"
"No."
Despite my denial, the man's face remained tense.
He snatched my phone and held it up to his face.
The screen kept displaying 'Unlock Failed'.
Nolan asked me in surprise why it couldn't recognize him.
Just as I was about to speak, a crisp, strange sound suddenly came from outside the window behind me.
The tall Nolan saw something, and without a word, he left me and disappeared.
Ten minutes later, following a series of silvery, coquettish laughs, I found Felicity wearing fresh flowers in her hair in the old mansion's back garden.
She was being carefully supported by Nolan as she played the childish game of tiptoeing across a balance beam.
"Brother Nolan, you must hold me steady... Ah, brother, save me!"
As they played, Felicity's foot slipped, and she fell with a flushed face into the man's chest.
They were stunned for a moment, then exchanged knowing smiles with perfect synchronicity. The laughter in Nolan's eyes vanished the moment he spotted me.
"Huh? Vivienne, sis, what are you doing here?"
Felicity looked at me with an innocent expression, blinking a few times before softly pounding her dainty fists against the man's chest.
"Oh, I get it. Big bro's finally decided to bring his ugly duckling home to meet the parents."
"Congratulations, Vivienne."
Though her words were congratulatory, the girl's voice was tinged with a whimper, causing Nolan to purse his lips in concern.
"It's just dinner, silly goose. What's there to congratulate?"
After comforting Felicity, the man turned to me with an utterly cold gaze.
"Is dinner ready?"
Before I could answer, dozens of long snakes suddenly fell from the treetops above, catching us off guard.
As I stumbled backwards in shock, Felicity let out a piercing scream.
Seeing this, Nolan didn't even spare me a glance as he held Felicity tight and quickly fled.
It wasn't until the wildlife control showed up to catch the snakes that the man remembered me.
He returned to the tree, looking left and right, only to be informed by the security guard at the gate that I had long since left.
In the airport waiting lounge late that night.
As I waited for my flight, my phone kept buzzing non-stop.It wasn't until the last minute before takeoff that I finally pressed the answer button.
As soon as the call connected, Nolan urgently demanded to know where I was.
Clearly, he had returned home to find it empty.
I didn't answer him directly, only saying:
"It's none of your business."
He paused for a moment, his voice tinged with slight irritation:
"Getting moody isn't good for the baby, sweetheart.
Stop being stubborn.
Give me the address, I'll come pick you up now..."
Before the man could finish speaking, the sound of a wet kiss on his cheek came through the phone,
along with Meadow's soft laughter.
Nolan cleared his throat.
His tone suddenly turned cold as he said:
"Something urgent came up at work. Take a cab home yourself."
After a pause, he added, still sounding concerned:
"Text me when you get home."
After the man hung up.
I opened our chat window and, as he wished, sent a message:
[Nolan, let's break up. I sincerely wish you and Meadow all the happiness in the world, for many years to come.]
As soon as the message showed as read, I blocked the man on all contacts and turned off my phone...
