A human figure leaped out of the trees standing a few feet away from me. Most of the hair on its head fallen out leaving few patches here and there. Its skin looked so pale like all the blood had been drawn out and thick scales covered his outer areas.
It's eyes shot up at me showing a bright starved red causing Nyx to flinch behind me.
"What is that?", she said gulping.
I couldn't be mistaken. This is definitely a Rager. But how..?, I thought the were just a myth and how was Roshan able to get his hands on one.
On second thought, was this even part of the training?
Either way, I have to protect Nyx and I wasn't going to let her down.
I heard movements coming from behind me and I turned to see another one jumping out from behind the trees and another one following shortly after.
How many are there....., I wondered as I was soon surrounding by about 20 of them saliva escaping their chipped lips looking like the had found their mid night snack.
I took my stance sharpening all my senses my ears twitching at the sound of the slightest movement preparing for my first task, get Nyx to safety.
Now ! I screamed in my head.
My eyes scanned the forest, my senses on high alert as I searched for a safe path. I could hear the Rager creatures shuffling through the underbrush, their moans and groans growing louder.
Without hesitation, I sprang into action. Grabbing Nyx's hand, pulling her along as I sprinted through the forest.
We weaved between the trees, my werewolf agility and quick reflexes from my training allowing me to dodge low-hanging branches and leaping roots.
A Rager lunged from the shadows, its arms outstretched. Apparently the hadn't given up or they were more of them...
I swiped at it with my claws cutting it's limbs clean off.
We were interrupted by a curtain of tangled vines, I paused for a moment using my strength to tear them aside. A narrow stream ran through the forest, its crystal-clear waters glistening in the sunlight.
I leapt into the stream, the icy water shocking my skin slightly. I pulled Nyx in after me, holding her close as we waded downstream.
The Ragers hesitated at the water's edge, their awkward movements making them hesitant to follow, stumbling on one another and I could see the had increased in number making me thank full of my decision to get Nyx to safety.
We continued downstream, the water masking our scent and making it harder for them to track them.
As we walked, my werewolf's senses remained on high alert, scanning the forest for any signs of danger. But for now, we seemed to have escaped.
I quickly scanned the surrounding area and spotting a large tree with a thick trunk and a cluster of bushes around its base. I grabbed her hand and pulling her towards the tree.
"Hide!" I whispered, pushing her behind the bushes.
"You'll be safe here", I said reassuring her while lightly squeezing her hand.
"I'll be back soon", I added heading back to the direction which we came.
Crossing the icy stream, I found tons of Ragers snarling in my direction. Their teeth more protruded and their actions devoid of all reasoning. Some looked relatively larger than others and stuck out having no hair completely on their head. Their scales looked thicker and their snarls sounding deeper.
"Time for round two, shall we?" I said a grin etched on my face.
XXXXXXXX
"What do you mean Project 49 escaped?" A voice said, his dark purple hair swaying in clear annoyance.
"Yes sir ", a shaky female voice responded.
"Earlier to this, it showed signs of aggression and the sedatives proved ineffective. The Rager tore through the defences and escaped", she added slowly gulping at the end.
The man jumped to his feet, his face gleaming with delight and his lips curved up in a smile.
"This is wonderful news", he said making the female raise her head slightly in confusion.
"Ragers are naturally aggressive creatures", he started speaking to everyone and no one at the same time.
"But only one thing can cause that kind of aggression from a Rager, werewolf blood..
as the grow stronger from consuming it And the stronger the werewolf the more the multiply".
" We must be close, good job", he said patting the female on her head grinning ear to ear.
I can already taste the wolf ...
