chapter8:Born

After Amy left the orphanage, another nurse quietly walked up to the head nurse. The nurse's eyes were full of curiosity and unmistakable worry.

She frowned and said in a low voice, "Head nurse, do you think Amy can really be this smooth - sailing and safe all the time? You know, her identity is so special that it makes people feel very uneasy." Hearing this, the head nurse let out a deep sigh. Her eyes slowly turned to the direction where Amy had left, with a tinge of helplessness and faint worry in her gaze. She said slowly, "There's really so little we can do. Her fate is like a book that has been written long ago, preset from the very beginning. This secret is like a seed buried in the soil. Sooner or later, it will take root and sprout, and then everyone will know. All we can do now is hope that she can gradually discover her own abilities and protect herself well during this process. After all, her background is far too complicated. Maybe..." The head nurse paused for a moment, a flicker of hesitation in her eyes, "Maybe it's just as we guessed before... And Amy, she has to learn to face all this by herself."...

In little Tom's world, since he got home, he had become a completely different person. He became extremely fond of studying and was full of enthusiasm for painting. His parents noticed the great change in their child's temperament and were filled with doubts. They decided to call their relatives living in upstate New York to inquire about the situation. "Hello, is that sister?" Tom's father dialed the number. "Yes, brother. Why do you have time to call today?" the relative asked on the other end of the phone. "Sister, have you noticed that little Tom has been a bit strange lately?" Tom's father said with a frown. "Strange? What do you mean? I haven't really noticed." The relative replied in confusion. "Since he came back from outside, he's like a different person. Before, he wasn't this interested in studying or painting. We're all worried that something might have happened to him outside." Tom's father explained in detail. "Oh, I see. But I really don't know. He didn't show anything special when he was here with me." The relative indicated that she didn't know the reason either. In order to find out his son's secret, Tom's father thought it over and decided to buy the latest radio as a reward for his son. After all, his son had ranked first in the class in the primary school graduation exam and had been pestering him for a beautiful radio to listen to music. "Son, look what dad has brought back for you?" Tom's father deliberately raised his voice as soon as he entered the door. "What is it, dad?" Little Tom ran out of his room curiously. "Look, it's the latest radio. Haven't you always wanted one?" Tom's father took out the radio with a smile. "Wow, thank you, dad!" Little Tom happily took the radio, but there was still a trace of doubt in his eyes, wondering why his father was suddenly so generous. "Son, you've changed a great deal lately. Dad wants to know if you had any special experiences outside?" Tom's father took the opportunity to get to the point. "No... no, dad. I just suddenly found studying and painting very interesting." Little Tom replied with evasive eyes. "Really, son? If you have anything, you can tell dad. No matter what it is, dad won't blame you." Tom's father persisted in asking. "Really not, dad. Can I go listen to the radio now?" Little Tom impatiently wanted to end this topic. "All right, son. Go and play." Tom's father watched helplessly as his son went back to his room, but his doubts grew even stronger....

Little Tom carried the radio back to his room and gently closed the door. He sat on the edge of the bed, his fingers gently stroking the brand - new radio, but the image of the mysterious disappearing sister on the bus involuntarily emerged in his mind. He knew he couldn't tell anyone about this. It was his own strange experience. But this matter was like a seed, taking root and sprouting in his heart, constantly stirring his curiosity. Every time he tried to concentrate on studying or painting, the lonely silhouette of that sister would break into his thoughts....

Back at the orphanage, Amy tightly held the bell and sat on her small bed. She carefully examined this only item related to her father, trying to find some clues about her own origin from its somewhat worn surface. The texture of the bell looked ordinary, but that mysterious halo made Amy feel that it seemed to hide a huge secret. "What on earth does this mean?" Amy said to herself. She put the bell to her ear and gently shook it. The bell made a clear but somewhat mysterious sound, as if it came from a far - away place, like it was telling a forgotten story. As night fell, the children in the orphanage gradually fell asleep. But Amy tossed and turned in bed. Various images kept flashing through her mind, the fear at dangerous moments, the smiling faces of Cindy and her brother, and the strange feeling on the bus. She felt as if she was in a huge mystery, and this bell was the key to solving it....

At the same time, in his room, little Tom turned on the radio and tuned to a quiet music channel. Soft music flowed in the room, but his mind was completely elsewhere. He took out a drawing book and started to draw. He found that his strokes unconsciously outlined the outline of a girl. The girl had a side profile similar to Amy's, with a faint sadness in her eyes. As he was drawing, little Tom suddenly had a strange feeling. He felt that he seemed to have a special connection with that mysterious sister. He didn't know where this feeling came from, but he knew that he had to do something to solve the doubts in his heart.

The next morning, little Tom got up early. He told his parents that he wanted to go to the library to look for some materials. Although his parents thought it was a bit strange, seeing their son so actively studying, they agreed without asking more questions. Little Tom came to the library. He shuttled between the bookshelves, looking for books that might be related to his experience. He found a book on space - time phenomena and sat in a corner to read it carefully. Some theories about space - time distortion and parallel worlds mentioned in the book greatly broadened his horizons. He began to suspect that what he saw on the bus was a phenomenon of space - time interlacing.

Amy was not idle at the orphanage either. She found the head nurse and wanted to get more information about her father from her. "Head nurse, can you tell me more about my father? This bell... it makes me feel that I'm close to the truth, but also far away." Amy's eyes were full of expectation. The head nurse looked at Amy and sighed softly. "Amy, I really don't know much about your father. When he sent you to the orphanage years ago, he only left this bell. He looked very hurried and mysterious. But I could feel that he had deep feelings for you. After all, he left this only thing to you." Amy was a bit disappointed, but she didn't give up. "Then do you still remember what he looked like? Or did he say any special words?" The head nurse shook her head. "It's been too long. I only remember that he was a very tall man and looked very tired. He didn't say much more, just hoped that we could take good care of you." Amy nodded. She knew that she might not be able to get more information from the head nurse. She decided to find the answers by herself. Maybe she could find some clues in the orphanage's archives.

Little Tom spent the whole day in the library. He read all the books on space - time phenomena and took a lot of notes. He found that although these theories were very complicated, some of the viewpoints seemed to be able to explain his experience on the bus. He decided to study these notes carefully when he got home. Maybe he could find more clues. When he got home, his parents had already prepared dinner. At the dinner table, his parents began to care about his recent changes again. "Son, what books did you read in the library today?" Mother asked. "I read some books on scientific phenomena. They were very interesting." Little Tom answered vaguely. "Don't tire yourself out too much, son. If you have any troubles or happy things, you can also tell us." Father also said with concern. Little Tom nodded, but he knew that he couldn't tell his parents about this matter yet. He didn't want to worry them, and he wasn't sure if they would believe him. After dinner, little Tom went back to his room and continued to study his notes. He drew various charts on the paper, trying to combine the phenomenon he saw on the bus with the theories in the book. The more he studied, the more excited he felt, as if he was uncovering a huge secret.

And Amy was rummaging in the orphanage's archives. The archives were filled with the smell of old paper, and dust was dancing in the light coming in through the window. She carefully examined every file, looking for any records that might be related to her own origin. But most of the files were about other children, and there were very few records about herself.
