Suddenly, a huddle of people with clown masks on their faces jumped out of a thick bush at the entrance of Blue Misty Land, holding pistols of different sizes and colors in their hands.
"Who are we!?" sneered a woman dressed in a black suit. "There's no need to tell you since you'll soon be a dead man."
Her voice was gruff, but it sounded familiar to Edward.
Yet, he could not figure out who she was from her voice immediately.
"Cowards!" shouted Edward, "Like you've said, I'll soon be dead. Then there's no risk for you to spill the truth to me!!"
"I have to say you've got damn good luck. We were supposed to lure you here, to have the mutated beasts in this Blue Misty land tear you apart, but I didn't expect you to survive and ride out on a tiger! That's absurd!!"
"Good luck?" Edward scoffed, "It's my ability that has helped me to survive!! Now tell me who sent you guys to kill me."
"You'll never know!! Just blame yourself for standing in one's way!!" the woman replied.
There was a cold edge in her voice.
"Enough talk. Now let's sent you on your way to the hell! And remember, we're only employees of our boss. Don't come back to avenge us as a ghost! Fire!" she commanded, and quite a few guns roared in unison.
It seemed Edward was truly doomed.
But they had no idea Edward was by no means an ordinary man.
In a way, he was the definition of the lightning speed.
Before anyone could blink, he had already leaped behind the inert body of the massive tiger.
For the time being, He turned it into a shield against the bullets flying his way.
"Who's a coward now? Stop hiding if you've got balls!" the woman taunted.
"Don't waste your breath. It won't do him any good to hide. Let's surround him and mow him down with gunfire," another sneered.
"Yeah, this kind can't be made of iron, can he? He can't withstand our bullets!"
They laughed, feeling confident in their triumph.
But in a moment of distraction, quite a few flashes of white light blinded them.
Four of them suddenly fell to the ground with a thud before they could even utter a sound.
The rest of them immediately treated back to hide behind a huge boulder.
"Damn it! What's going on?" the woman hollered, her voice now full of terror. "Fire again!"
With that, a barrage of bullets flew wildly in the air again.
When the gunshot stopped, the silence reigned for a long time, a wisp of smoke from the gunshot filling the air.
None of the thugs dared to make a move.
"What's the matter?" Edward suddenly spoke up. "Who's the real cowards here? Stop hiding if you've got balls. I just pricked your buddies' hearts with a few needles. What's so scary? Come out!"
"I've got no balls as a woman, to tell you the truth!" the woman spat back, laughing, "We're not going to fall for it. If you're not a coward, you can come out yourself."
"Okay, I'll do as you say!" replied Edward. "I've already come out to face you guys!"
At that moment, the woman's rang out again, barking another command.
"Fire. Turn the bastard into Swiss cheese!"
Every thug, cowering behind the huge boulder, only dared to reach out and fire in the direction of Edward's voice.
Instantly, another round of bullets flew, smoking filling the air again.
Then, dead silence fell. No one spoke, and Edward was silent, too.
"The bastard must be dead!" someone said.
"Go to check it out, Jeff," commanded the woman.
"Why me?" Jeff protested, his face pallid behind his clown mask, afraid that Edward was still alive.
"He's already a dead man. Do you want to disobey me?" threatened the woman, "I suppose you don't want me to send a bullet into your head, right?"
"Okay! Let me check then!"
Jeff slowly moved his head out from behind the boulder, trying to peek with his eyes.
Before he could make sense of anything, two streaks of white light zipped by.
He let out a blood-curdling scream, covering his eyes in agony as bright red blood seeped through his fingers.
At that moment, Edward spoke up again, "Listen carefully, anyone who wants to live should surrender now. Otherwise, when I start killing, none of you will get away."
The woman who seemed to be the leader of the group also began to speak, "Don't panic, everyone. He's clearly bluffing. Fire at him together and finish him off."
She led by example, extending her arm out from behind the rock and unleashing a barrage of bullets in Edward's direction.
"Ah!" she suddenly screamed in agony.
The gun fell from her hand as her men saw that her arm, which had been holding the weapon, was now impaled by a gleaming dagger.
Crimson blood flowed from the wound like a spider's web down her palm.
Her men were horrified and decided to flee with her and Jeff, who had been blinded.
"It's too late. You're all going to die," Edward's voice echoed from above the large rock, from the branches of a tree.
They looked up to see Edward standing triumphantly on the leaves, sneering down at them.
"Quick, shoot him with your guns," the woman said in a weak voice.
Soon, another round of chaotic gunfire erupted.
But this time, Edward didn't dodge.
Instead, he swiftly spun two daggers in his hands. The daggers created a whirlwind of blades, forming an impervious wall.
The bullets struck the daggers and were immediately deflected back, hitting various parts of the shooters' bodies. One was hit in the head and fell dead on the spot. Another was struck in the heart and collapsed without a struggle.
The woman's eyes were now filled with sheer terror.
Edward slowly approached her.
"Don't kill me. Please... I'll tell you everything I know," she pleaded.
"It's too late," Edward sneered.
"It's not too late. We've met before," she said, suddenly removing her mask.
She was not unattractive, even somewhat pretty.
"You're so handsome, man! If you don't mind, I'd be more than willing to please you," she said, giving Edward a wink and licking her lips.
She even put on a lascivious smile and began to unbutton her blouse with her other hand.
"I've seen women with low self-esteem, but I've never seen one like you. Save your act!" Edward raised his dagger high, its cold gleam sending chills down her spine.
"No, sir, I know you have a soft spot for the ladies," she suddenly ripped open her black trousers, revealing her long, shapely, and fair legs.
At the same time, she raised an eyebrow, drawing Edward's attention to the prominent mole on her forehead.
Edward suddenly recognized her--the pharmacist who had greeted him at the Everbright Pharmacy.
"It's you!" Edward said in surprise.
"That's right, it's me. What do you think of my legs?" she asked, revealing more of them.
"To be honest, they're not bad. But I'm a heartless man, especially towards women like you," Edward replied coldly.
"Aren't you tempted to run your hands along them? You know there are some little secrets down there." the woman suddenly cooed in a seductive voice.
Her tone was laced with a lewd moan.
"Well, since you're so inviting and hospitable, I won't want to disappoint you," Edward continued to close the distance between them.
