Dacatt threw his hands in the air. "That fiancé of hers! He shielded her with his body and took the bullet himself. This is the second time that bastard has saved her from my bullet. He's too fast. It doesn't make sense."

"Did you say he took the bullet?" Evans asked.

Dacatt nodded. "I shot him twice. One bullet in his shoulder and one in his stomach. They ran off. I doubt he's surviving that."

Evans felt a surge of satisfaction ripple through him, his lips curling into a sinister smile. He stood up and strode over to the edge of the balcony, pausing in front of the railing. He took a long breath, savoring the cool evening breeze.

"I hope he doesn't survive," he said casually. "With that idiot out of the way, killing Adeline will be child's play."
