074 FIGHTING CAT AND DOGS

"It's a Nightprowler, a cat demon spirit—a favorite summon among demon magic practitioners. It's incredibly powerful," Yun-Yun replied. "But luckily, these mages aren't experts in dark magic. Their summoned demon is weaker than usual."

Leo quickly cast a spell from his spell panel. Several rocks shot towards the Nightprowler. But the demon cat easily dodged the magic missiles.

"Damnit, how can I miss?" Leo complained.

The Nightprowler darted across the battlefield, its movements a blur of lethal precision. Yun-Yun narrowly evaded a slash of dark energy, her voice sharp with frustration. "The Cat Demon is too agile and powerful. Your spell couldn't stop her."

Leo's mind raced, desperation clawing at him. "Then how do we stop it?" he demanded.

Yun-Yun shot him a withering glance. "If you'd practiced the spells I taught you properly, maybe you'd stand a chance against the demon."

Her words stung, but Leo knew they weren't unwarranted. Despite Yun-Yun's relentless efforts to teach him magic, he had often relied too heavily on his System's shortcuts and his programming. Now, faced with a true crisis, he felt the weight of his inadequacies.

The Nightprowler struck again, its claws raking dangerously close. Leo ducked and clenched his fists. "Sorry, but this isn't the time for a lesson!" he snapped, his voice sharp and urgent.

Yun-Yun sighed, dodging another attack. "Then make yourself useful, Leo. Think of something fast, or we're all done for!"

The demon cat, a ferocious Nightprowler, loomed before them, its crimson eyes gleaming with malice. Defeating it would require more than brute force; it needed strategy.

"What's the cat demon's natural enemy?" Leo asked, his mind racing.

"Dogs?" Yun-Yun blurted out.

Her quick response sparked an idea.

Though the Nightprowler was a powerful demon spirit, it was still bound by the instincts of its kind. Cats, even monstrous ones, harbored an innate fear of dogs.

"Can we summon a dog spirit to fight the cat?" Leo pressed, hope flickering in his eyes.

Yun-Yun shook her head reluctantly. "I can summon a spirit dog, but my summoning won't be strong enough to defeat a demon like this, even if it's afraid of them."

Leo frowned but nodded. A lesser spirit dog might not win the fight, but it could still create an opening.

"Do it anyway. Anything to buy us time is worth it!" he urged.

Yun-Yun hesitated only briefly before raising hands. She chanted swiftly, her voice weaving an intricate spell. The air around them grew heavy, swirling with energy. This wasn't the demon summoning favored by sect mages; it was true summoning magic, ancient and untamed.

The form of a canine began to take shape, shimmering into existence. As the air cleared, the creature stood revealed: a modest-sized dog with keen and intelligent eyes.

It barked twice, its voice sharp but nowhere near intimidating.

"Woof! Woof!"

Yun-Yun sighed, already knowing the limits of her spell. The summoned dog, while loyal and spirited, was no match for the Nightprowler's immense power.

With a snarl, the demon cat lashed out, its claws ripping through another group of Amara warriors.

The dog barked and wagged its tail enthusiastically, but the Nightprowler dismissed it entirely, its attention fixed on its human prey.

"It's ignoring the dog!" Yun-Yun exclaimed, frustration creeping into her voice.

"We're losing ground fast!" Shaman's voice rang out from the rear lines. "The chains binding the mages won't hold if we keep getting taken out!"

Leo gritted his teeth, glancing between the struggling warriors and the defiant little dog. They needed something more—a way to amplify Yun-Yun's magic or distract the Nightprowler long enough to find something useful.

"This isn't working," he muttered, scanning the battlefield. "But maybe… maybe we don't need to beat it. We just need to scare it a little."

"What?" Yun-Yun asked.

Leo's mind raced, forming a desperate plan. They would have to gamble everything on turning the Nightprowler's own fear against it.

"This dog isn't built for fighting, licking maybe but definitely not fucking fighting," he muttered in frustration.

"It's all I can do right now—my magic hasn't fully recovered, and I don't have much experience with dogs," she responded, frustrated.

"Yun-Yun, prepare another summoning," he commanded, his tone resolute. "This time, we'll amplify it's effects."

"How?" she asked, her brow furrowing.

"Trust me," Leo said, stepping behind Yun-Yun and gently taking hold of her hands. His touch was steady, a stark contrast to the chaos around them. "We'll make this count."

Yun-Yun hesitated but nodded, her resolve firming.

She began casting her dog summoning spell again, even as doubt gnawed at her. The intricate magic codes swirled to life before her, weaving together to form the familiar pattern.

"It'll just be the same cute dog as before. What difference will this make?" Yun-Yun asked, her voice edged with skepticism.

"No, this time will be different," Leo replied, his eyes narrowing in concentration.

As Yun-Yun continued her incantation, Leo's gaze locked onto the forming spell. The glowing codes of magic pulsed with energy, and with a deep breath, he extended his hand, fingers flickering with his own power.

He began altering the spell's codes and structure, weaving his modifications into the existing framework.

"Are you changing my spell mid-casting?" Yun-Yun gasped, her voice a mix of shock and alarm.

"I've never tried this before," Leo admitted, sweat beading on his brow as he worked. "But what have we got to lose?"

Yun-Yun's focus faltered for a moment, but she pushed through, trusting Leo despite her reservations. The summoning spell shifted, the energy growing brighter and wilder. Whatever Leo was doing, it was altering the outcome in ways neither of them fully understood.

More Amara women fell to the demon cat's relentless attacks, and with each loss, the magical chains binding the mages weakened until they finally broke.

"Twang!!!!"

The mages seized their chance, scattering into the darkness, leaving the Amara clan to face the monstrous creature alone. The Nightprowler prowled after the remaining women, readying another strike.

"Prrrrrrr"

"We're doomed," Shaman cried, desperation in her voice.
