Before Ray could even understand what happened, a rush of energy flowed into his body making him almost moan from pleasure. His muscles subtly bulging- although there were no other visible changes.
His calves and thighs bulging too, as Ray even experienced an increase In his height.
From 5'8 to 5'9!
Impossible!
'Am I a god?'
Ray thought - basking in the after glow of his upgrade.
But there was someone not sharing in on his happiness whatsoever, and that was the miner- who was left wondering who the hell this kid was and what he was doing staring at the monsters, whose cores he was busy extracting, with starry eyes.
'This kid is just weird '. The miner concluded as he watched Ray; who didn't seem to be coming out of his euphoria anytime soon.
Now the miner was starting to get annoyed; Ray had interrupted his work, and now just staring off into the distance, and not to mention the strong stench of body odour mixed with blood was just uncomfortable- although mildly.
For as a miner of his caliber, such inconveniences such as blood were no longer enough to make him wrinkle his nose in disgust.
But hey! the monsters smell bad enough! Why add yours!
The miner thought in frustration still looking at Ray. His annoyance finally reaching a breaking point as he finally snapped.
"Then if I have nothing to help you with, why don't you get the fuck out of my face instead of staring at me like a moron". The miner barked.
Clearly irritated by Ray's presence.
'Who dares!' was Ray's first thought- after being rudely awakened from his euphoric moment courtesy of his upgraded stats.
He was just about to take a look at his stats and status panel, when he heard a loud bark directed at him.
Ray who felt like a god at this moment, the power upgrade granting him the illusion to crush the arrogant as if they were mere pests, to dictate life and death. To-
'oh wait what am I even doing '. Ray thought in fright his mind experiencing a rare state of clarity that only post- nut clarity could hope to achieve.
He had almost lost himself in such a baseless illusion. Over what? a small increase in stats?.
Ray shuddered; the fear of what he would have done, had he been an impulsive driven man from the start, made him shudder.
Forget the Double AA's chatting with the old man. Even this miner would be enough to handle him. After all this man stats should be anround 10 in each Attribute or close!
By now, their little banter, had attracted attention, as miners and porters alike began looking in their direction.
Heck! even the old man and the men he was discussion with were looking in his direction.
The old man gaze scanning Ray. His eyes furrowing in thought as he observed the blood stain on his clot- rags.
The lad had been hale and hearty before we went off to join the other awakends to fight the monsters, so what could have possibly happened in a span of few hours?
The old man wondered in contemplation. His hands subconsciously stroking his beard.
And the most strangest of all, why was he back here? shouldn't he be home now or something?.
Or....could it be?
'have I left such a heavy impression on this lad, that he missed the old man already?'
'Yes! Yes! That must be it '. The old man chuckled inwardly. His momentary diversion to why Ray was here, caused him to forget about his earlier thoughts on Ray's bloodied clothes.
It was unknown what Ray would have thought If he knew what the old man was thinking. But what he did know, was that he had to get out of this weird scenario he was in.
"Uhh.. sorry sir...I...I apologize". Ray didn't exactly know how to respond- he hadn't exactly been in a situation like this either.
"Hmph"
The miner snorted resuming his work, having taken the initiative to ignore Ray- for as the saying goes - out of sight, out of mind!
Ray simply backed off quickly. His eyes scanning the surroundings as he noticed the blabbering old man's peculiar state.
It seemed everyone had already continued their work- the little banter between the miner and Ray doing nothing than add maybe a little spark of exciting gossip in their late night discussions.
Taking a casual stroll while under the pretense of checking out the monster cores were being extracted, Ray was wandering around the block. He had hoped that he would get the chance to trigger another attribute extraction.
But it seemed he just got lucky the first time.
While still under the pretense of observing, Ray was also checking out how the miners were working as well;
The way their skilled hands moved- splitting the spiders body open, the blade cutting through the flesh in such a way that blood vessels and organs did not immediately spiral out, while ensuring to avoid destroying their cores with their tools, was like watching art; although the painting being worked upon, were the monsters body.
"Come with me"
It was all good and all, until a hand landed on Ray's shoulder. Forcing him to turn and look at this new comer. His eyes widening in shock as he saw the symbol of the Double AA's on the front of this newcomer's coat.
It seemed their symbol was two sided..The symbol on both side of their coat. And peering closer, Ray could make out the number 74 underneath the double AA'S.
'His ranking perhaphs?' Ray wondered
But he was swiftly pulled out of his thoughts, as he noticed the man staring at him.
His neck length hair, coupled with his chiseld jawline and hunter eyebrows accentuated with his blue eyes, made him a killer for the ladies.
And this man was staring at him, seemingly waiting for him to come out of whatever little world Ray had pulled his thoughts into.
Turning his back, he began walking off into the distance. Ray quickly following behind, he would be a fool to keep such a powerful being waiting for long. Ray calmly followed, patiently waiting for the man to start a conversation as to why he picked him.
"Eric"
-"Ray"
With introductions now out of the way, Ray waited for Eric to get to the crux of the matter.
And Eric, who didn't seem like someone to beat around the bush, got straight to the point pointing at his clothes.
"Present at the time of the dungeon spawning?" Eric asked. His piercing blue eyes locking Ray's black own.
"Yes..yes sir". Ray responded; seemingly wondering why the need for such intense eye contact.
"Were you attacked by any monster?" Eric continued.
"Uhhh no sir" Ray answered
"Then how are your clothes turn and dried blood all over your body". Eric said; casually pointing out the inconsistencies in Ray's answers.
"I...I...was attacked...but not by monsters, by some people..bad people" Ray said, his tone dropping as he remembered the torture he passed through a few hours ago. The flame of revenge that he had cooled, flaring up with even more intensity.
And this didn't go unnoticed by Eric.
He stopped- hands in his pocket adopting a casual demeanour. Although he was far from calm- his narrowed eyes betraying his inner turmoil within. Gritting his teeth,he asked-
"Know them from anywhere? No way random people chose to beat you for no reason". Eric stated.
"I...I don't seem to remember..all I remember is an alleyway, and a woman, and hands in my pockets that's all". Ray said
Eric looked at Ray, his piercing blue eyes locking Ray's Black's own as if searching his eyes for any decit- for he felt there was some information being withdrawn..or hidden?
"Alright, but you should get yourself checked in an infirm and head home kid". Eric said, seemingly leaving the issue of attempted murder on a youth at the back of head.
Not even asking how the kid got beat while surviving a monster on the loose.
If the kid wanted help, he would have spoken-he figured.
Ray's face visibly contoured with rage as he heard 'infirm'. The ember eyed woman's face flashing through his memory once more, making him clench his fists.
Noticing another strange behaviour, Eric promptly chose to change the topic.
"Sigh"
With an audible sigh to break the tension, Eric continued "forget it, where do you live kid".
"Hope's Haven"
"Hope's Haven?- you mean the orphange?"
"Yes" came Ray's curt reply.
'i see...so an orphan...the fact he's out this late means he had to be around here for the Awakener's test; but I sense no aura from him. Had he not awkened?, then what did I sense earlier?'. Eric couldn't help but wonder as he looked at Ray in thought.
"Alright kid, grab on tight" Eric suddenly said. Lightly placing his hands on Ray's shoulder; before they both disappeared!
'space mage!'
Ray screamed internally.
Although his stomach didn't join in his excitement.
His stomach churning due to the abrupt change in environmental settings.
With four or five teleports, Ray was in front of his orphange.
"Take care kid". Eric said before promptly disappearing once more.
"Sur- *BLEEHGGHHH*
Ray couldn't even finish his sentence before vomiting all over the floor. His knees buckling as he regurgitated his morning meal- which wasn't even much to begin with.
Wiping his mouth, Ray looked at the ten story building- it's sheer size imposing and intimidating. Although the walls of the building told a story of time's effect. With small cracks here and there, this building manager to house over a hundred and fifty children.
The name Hope's Haven was supposed to be an indicator of a place built to provide hope for the future generations even though they were orphans. Although the current state of the building didn't scream hope at all.
Even form here, Ray could here the shouts from the little kids in the building even though it was so late in the night.Their laughter a sharp contrast to the otherwise calm and peaceful night.
'Yeah...not going to be a peaceful calm evening for me- and this orphange's definetly doing a bad job at giving me 'hope'' Ray thought with a chuckle.
