Chapter 19

Blake's POV

I brought Brielle back to my house. I didn't take her to the hospital because then I would have to do a lot of explaining, and I would have to let her folks know about her condition. I think she wouldn't want her folks to know either. Everyone was concerned about her. I took her to my room and laid her on the bed, but her condition had worsened. She was hot and had caught a fever. I had no choice. I carried her to the bathtub and opened the cold water. I went inside with her with our clothes on. I was trying to get the fever to break. She shivered and groaned and it hurt my heart. I felt so helpless about not being able to make her feel better immediately.

After a while, I took her out and called for my mother to come and help me. I left them so that she could change Brielle out of her wet clothes. I dried myself and changed my clothes. Mom came out with Brielle and I helped her put her on the bed.

" Don't worry son. She will be alright." She tried consoling me. I spotted Mia standing by the doorway. I refused to tell them Rea was the one behind all of this, but they guessed it on their own. Who besides Rea would want to hurt Brielle?

I ignored Mia and focused on Brielle. What could I say to her that would be new? We would just fight over what is right and wrong. She is the only one holding me back from hurting Rea. I really held myself back from killing her. She could have killed Brielle.

Mom left me to tend to my mate. I sat beside her and put a cloth on her forehead. She was pale and cold. I put the sheets over her body and continued to place a warm cloth on her forehead. She seemed to be getting better, and she was no longer groaning and whimpering in pain. I stood beside her for some time and then decided to go get some warm soup. She must be so hungry and has had a long day.

I went out to get the soup. I went to the kitchen thinking that I should make her the soup but when I got there, my mom was already there making it. She beat me to it, and I was kind of relieved. I have never made anything for myself, and I am sure the soup would be a disaster.

" Thanks, Mom. You are such a lifesaver. I don't know what I would do without you."

" Don't mention it. It's a great opportunity to do something for my would-be daughter-in-law. Even though we are meeting in unfortunate circumstances. I hope that she gets well with my soup."

" Yes. I hope so too," I said, and waited for her to finish making the soup.

Once she is done, I take a bowl on a team and take it up to her. But when I got there, she was no longer lying on the bed. I panicked, afraid that she could get hurt. I placed the soup down and set to look for her around the house. It is big so she could easily get lost, but I smelled something. Her scent was faint but I could smell her. Then I heard the sound of a loudly beating heart. She was still in there. I was panicking earlier. That is why I couldn't sense her. I sighed and walked over to the door, closing it.

She had her eyes closed as if she was praying to not be caught.

" What are you doing here? You should be resting in bed. You are not well yet," I said, scolding her.

She opened her eyes and stared at me. I know. She must be so confused about everything. She is in my house, in an unfamiliar place, and she probably doesn't remember what all happened to her.

" I want to go home," she said to me, catching me off guard.

" I know. You will go home, but first, you have to get well so that your folks won't worry about you. I promise to take you home later."

I reassured her and she reluctantly eased up. I have her in my hand, so I could help het get back to bed. She looked at it for a few minutes, not yet sure if she should, but she accepted it. I smiled. Her reaction is much better than I had imagined. I thought she would throw an uncontrollable fit and throw all kinds of insults at me. I guess it is a good thing. It's not good for her to get worked up at this moment. She looked at me like a hawk, wondering if I would get hurt. She looked cute, but she should know that I would never hurt her. She will realize it when I take her back home safe and sound.
