Blake's POV
Kyle and I spent most of the night drinking, but the topic of Brielle never came up. He then left to go back to his mate, and I was yet again left to loneliness and silence. I tried to get some sleep, but I guess I didn't drink enough to get knocked out. I lay on the bed, staring at the ceiling, hoping that wherever she is, she was missing me just the same. I ended up falling asleep, but it wasn't easy. I tossed and turned until morning.
I woke up and went to do my daily routine getting ready to leave. I had to talk to my father to agree to stay in charge of the pack until I came back. Now that Kyle was here, he would be able to help us when needed. I definitely can't involve him. I wouldn't forgive myself if I took him along and anything happened to him. Not when he's going to be a father. I can't deprive his mate and child of his presence.
I don't want to tell the family anything, but I had to lead by example if I wanted things to change between Brielle and I. I had to tell them what was going on so they knew. Just like how I wanted Brielle to be open to me and tell me everything. I picked out some clothes for the journey. For now, I have nothing to work on. I don't know where she was at the moment. The mark wasn't working. It is as if there was a blocker. I couldn't feel her at all. As if she didn't exist. I had never tried to get through to her before as she is a human, but it does work in times of need. Just not this time. It's important for me to look for her as she is our future Luna and I know that if things go awry. I'd need backup, so I was going to take a few guys with me just for precaution. I need our defenses to stay since the pack will be vulnerable without an Alpha.
I heard a knock on the door. Before I could answer, the door opened and Kyle came in. " Oh, there you are!" he exclaimed cheerfully. " I thought you would still be out cold from drinking all night." I smiled at him, but his eyes landed on the bag on top of the bed. " Hey, what do you have there. Are you going somewhere?" I sighed. It's not like it's a secret anymore. " Well, you got me," I chuckled, trying to get rid of the tense mood. " Look, I noticed something was off about you last night. I just didn't mention it because I thought eventually you would tell me. Now is the time. Tell me what's going on and where are you heading off to." So he noticed that, huh? I am glad he didn't say anything. I really didn't want to mope with him. " Yeah, you are right. I was going to tell you before I leave. I guess I can tell you now." I paused. " I am going to look for my mate. She is kind of missing right now and probably running straight into danger. I have to find and stop her before she does something that will hurt her. I need to bring her back home." " What? Why didn't you tell anyone about this? You do realize that the future Luna of this pack is in danger. "
" I know, I know. I just didn't know how to tell anyone anything. There is a lot going on, and I didn't know where to begin."
He's my best friend and, in times of need, he knows how to step up, but this isn't his fight. I will do something to make sure he stays out of this.
" I already know what you are thinking. You probably won't let me in on this, but I won't be able to stay put if I know you will be in danger. Let me help you."
I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose. Stress levels were rising by the second. And I was thinking that maybe it was a bad idea to leave in the morning. I should have left in the dead of the night and that way Kyle wouldn't have caught on to me. It wouldn't be easy to get him to back off without explaining, so I sat him down and tried to tell him everything as brief but detailed as I could.
As expected, he was dumbfounded.
" That's... a lot," he said.
I could see on his face that it was difficult to wrap his head around.
" It's too much and that is why I don't want any of my loved ones caught in the cross fire."
" I don't understand you, Blake. Why do you insist on taking every burden in the world upon yourself? You call us loved ones but won't let us be there for you. That's just bullshit!"
" You don't get it, Kyle-"
" Fuck that, you don't get it. Loved ones are supposed to love and support you at all times. In good and bad times, they are with you. They don't abandon you for their own safety. As much as you can't live without any of us, we won't be able to live without you. If not for me, think about your parents. They have already lost one child. Don't make them relive that nightmare. Not without telling them the truth."
I had nothing to say about that because he was right. Everything he said was absolutely correct, but it wasn't about what is wrong or what is right. I'm just trying to do what's best for everyone, but it seems that even that is wrong.
" Fine, Kyle. I guess you are right. I will do this your way. I'll tell my parents everything, but it ends there. You are not going to be coming with me. You will stay with your family and that's final."
He looked like he wanted to disagree, but he stopped himself.
" Alright. I will take that."
Both of us left the room and went downstairs. My parents were already in the living room. Kyle and I joined them.
" I see you boys are already inseparable. Morgan must be getting lonely around here."
My mom said with a smile on her face. I see that she has already got acquainted well with Morgan.
" I haven't seen her this morning. Is she still asleep," she asks Kyle.
" No, she woke up a while ago. She and my mother went out for breakfast. My mother insisted on treating her to a meal and some time together."
"Oh, that's good. She is already getting along with her daughter-in-law. Speaking of which, I wonder where my daughter-in-law is. I haven't seen her for a while."
There comes the opportunity to tell the truth. Kyle looked at me, egging me on to start talking. Jeez, he's a real pain in the ass. I guess I have no choice but to tell them now. As I was about to answer my mother, the doorbell rang. Kyle got up to get it. That is strange.
No one rings the bell. Pack members had just come inside, so I really was wondering who it was at the door. After a little while, Kyle came back, followed by a man. It took me a few seconds to recollect where I had seen him before. Right. He is Brielle's father. Upon realizing that, I got up and walked towards him.
" You are Brielle's father," I said, stating the obvious. Well, to me, not to everyone else.
" Yes. My name is Ryan Johnson. Nice to meet you," he said, bringing out his hand for a handshake. I shook his hand, still confused about his visit. Did he come here to ask about Brielle? I guess even he doesn't know where she is as well. If so, things will be a lot tougher than I thought. But most importantly, how did he know how to find this place? And how come no one from the boarder patrol spotted him?
" Nice to meet you too. Come on in," I said.
My parents were looking confused about our interaction. This will be the first time my parents meet Brielle's family. This isn't the ideal meeting, but I guess a lot of things can't be helped.
" Oh, right. Mr Johnson, meet my parents."
Mother and father got up to greet Brielle's father and then took their seats.
" What brings you over, Mr Johnson?"
" About that. I don't have a lot of time. I had to find you as soon as possible. My daughter is back at my house. I was afraid she was treading a dangerous path and I just couldn't let her go through with it. She won't listen to you, so I am hoping that you can get through to her."
The relief I felt when he said those words. Brielle was safe and sound. My worst fears subsided, and I felt like the weight on my shoulders was lifted.
" Thank God!" I thought out loud, expressing my relief.
" I was about to go find her myself. This makes things a lot easier when she is with you. I am glad that she made that stop. Now I will do everything I can to stop her from doing anything dangerous."
" Wait. What is going on here? Will anyone tell us what is going on here?" my mother asked.
" I was just about to ask the same thing," my father added.
Unfortunately, I had no time to stick around and talk. Now it was up to him to do that.
" Let's not waste time, Mr Johnson. Let me get my things and we'll leave." I said to him and turned to my parents.
" Mom, dad, I'm sorry that I can't explain anything to you right now. I have to leave, but I have already filled Kyle in on the details. I'll leave it to him to tell you what's going on."
Thank God they understood the urgency of the situation and didn't insist on asking me questions. I quickly ran up the stairs and went to pick up my bag in the room. I was about to walk out the door when I remembered that I had forgotten something. I turned back and went to my bedside table drawer to take out a small box. I opened it and saw the moonstone, an oval-shaped ring. I bought this a whole back and I have been meaning to give it to Brielle. I just never go the chance.
It wasn't a proposal ring. This was an affirmation ring. A promise ring that would symbolize my love for her. I suppose now wouldn't be a bad time. I need to show her that we are really in this together, and we'll be in it for the long run. This time, both of us will fight this cursed fate of ours and survive. History will not repeat itself. No matter what, we'll find our way around it. We'll just have to stay together for that.
I closed the box and headed downstairs. I rushed over to give my mom a kiss on the cheek.
" Don't worry mom. I'm going to get your daughter-in-law. I'll be back."
I looked over to my father.
" Take over for me while I am gone. If anything happens, call me."
I then turned to Kyle. " Well talk later man. Please take care of my parents."
" Don't worry man. Go ahead a d bring her home."
Mr Johnson and I left the house. I was about to go to the garage to get my car, but he stopped me and said he would take a ride. As we were walking to where he parked his car, I asked him the question that was on my mind.
" Hey, Mr Johnson. How did you find my place? Did Brielle tell you?"
" Oh, that. No, Brielle didn't tell me anything. She barely tells me anything," he said, murmuring the last part to himself.
I know Brielle and her father are not really on good terms, so it makes me wonder more why she could have gone to his place.
" I know about this place. Long ago, when I was still a boy, I used to come play here with a few friends. I've always known about the Blue Moon Pack. This is Lunaris, after all, and this is the largest and strongest pack around."
I stopped. I was surprised by what he said." Wait, how do you know about that? Are you-"
" Yes, I am. I am a werewolf as well."
Now that was a freaking shocker. I didn't know that about him. I couldn't even sense that. I guess this will be the time to put pieces together.
