The Beginning in the Empire of Twilight

Chapter 9 : "The Beginning in the Empire of Twilight"

Hossam arrived at the Empire of Twilight after a grueling journey with the Dark Elves. He parted ways with them at the outskirts of the grand city. The sight of the city was breathtaking—high fortified walls and intricate artistic details on the buildings reflected an ancient civilization rich in development and magic. A massive magical tower dominated the skyline, giving the impression of the empire's ability to merge military might with magical power.

At the empire's gate, guards inspected newcomers with scrutinizing gazes. Hossam approached with confidence, though his heart was pounding. He wasn't sure how they would receive him, especially after his experiences in the forest. However, the guards merely conducted a swift scan of the magical energy emblem surrounding him and motioned for him to enter without many questions.

Inside the city, the streets were paved with smooth stones, and shops displayed a variety of goods—from enchanted weapons to healing potions. As he wandered, a group of local bullies caught his attention. They mocked strangers and harassed merchants. When Hossam passed by them, they tried to provoke him, but he ignored them, realizing that engaging with them would lead nowhere. He moved quickly to continue exploring the city.

As he walked further, Hossam began hearing rumors about two major magical institutions in the city. The first was the School of Magic, an educational institute focused on training young mages. Its long-standing history made it a destination for most talented magic users. It was said that admission required exceptional abilities and advanced mana control.

The second was the Magical Bastion, a completely different institution. This establishment emphasized developing physical capabilities alongside magical powers. Students trained to integrate magic into combat techniques. The bastion was renowned for producing students with exceptional physical strength and unparalleled mana control. The main building resembled a fortified tower, much like ancient war castles, yet it radiated with mana. Its interior walls were adorned with glowing stones, symbolizing the harmony between magic and physical prowess. It was said that students there learned to use magic not only as an offensive tool but also to enhance their physical abilities in battles.

Hossam decided to head to the School of Magic first, thinking his abilities would be a good fit for that place. When he arrived at the large, ornate gate, he stepped forward to register his name. However, when his turn came, he was turned away. The reason for the rejection was unclear—perhaps it was due to his lack of refined control over his magical circuits or that he didn't meet the school's strict requirements.

Hossam felt disappointed for a moment, but he quickly regained his confidence and decided to try his luck at the Magical Bastion. When he reached the massive gate flanked by statues of ancient warriors, he was greeted respectfully by one of the officials, who said, "We have strict entrance tests, but those who prove themselves deserve the opportunity."

The first test was the Mana Test, which evaluated a person's ability to create advanced magical circuits and manipulate them. A magical clock was presented to him to assess the precision of his abilities. The clock was highly sensitive, capable of measuring the smallest details in mana flow. Hossam was tasked with creating circuits quickly and with control. He demonstrated a decent level of proficiency, successfully forming four circuits, which impressed some of the officials.

The second test was Mana Control. He was asked to cast small spells but in complex ways, such as altering the direction of the magic mid-air or reducing its power and then suddenly increasing it. The goal was to showcase a delicate balance between his control and inner strength. Despite some challenges, Hossam managed to pass the test with relative success.

The final test was Physical Capability. He had to endure a series of grueling physical exercises, including long-distance running and weightlifting. This test was the hardest for him, as he felt immense fatigue throughout. However, he refused to give up and pushed himself until the end.

After completing the tests, he was sent to wait in the waiting hall. The hall was filled with both new and returning students, discussing their experiences and ambitions for the future. Hossam sat quietly, trying to process what he had just gone through.

While waiting, Hossam met some new characters. There was an older student named Leos, who had a strong build and had been practicing magical martial arts for years. Leos spoke briefly with Hossam about the challenges he would face in the bastion. There was also a new student named Mirae, who was obsessed with learning how to use magic to enhance her physical strength. Hossam struck up conversations with these students, beginning to feel like he was finding his place in this new community.

As time passed, Hossam began to wonder about his test results. He wasn't entirely confident in his performance, but he knew he had given it his all.
