The morning at Valtrossa University began with the usual bustle of new students. Odel walked briskly toward the main building, trying to ignore the stares directed at her. Behind her, her three fiancés followed, each radiating an unmistakable aura that made them impossible to overlook.
"Why do you have to walk like that?" Odel hissed without turning around.
Daffin smiled nonchalantly. "Like what? I'm just walking normally, sweetheart."
"Normal for you is extraordinary to humans!" Odel groaned. She quickened her pace, hoping they wouldn't attract any more attention.
As they entered the classroom, the atmosphere shifted immediately. Whispers echoed from various corners of the room. Some students even attempted to discreetly snap photos.
"Who are they? Models?" whispered a female student, clutching her phone.
Odel held her breath, wishing the ground would swallow her whole. She chose a seat in the middle row, but her three fiancés opted for spots that made them even more conspicuous. Daffin sat beside her, Emilio took the seat behind her, and Clayton casually chose a seat in the front corner. Instead of reducing attention, their positions only amplified it.
"Good morning, new students!" a friendly voice broke the murmurs.I'm Professor Grayson, your Introduction to Sociology lecturer. Before we begin, let's introduce ourselves."
The professor began calling on each student to introduce themselves. When it was Odel's turn, she stood up awkwardly.
"Hello, my name is Odel. I'm glad to be here and hope we all get to know each other better," she said briefly before sitting back down.
Daffin, however, stood up confidently right after her. "My name is Daffin Doyle. I'm here to support my fiancée," he declared, flashing a charming smile at Odel. The class erupted into chatter.
"Fiancée?" several students whispered, while Odel wished she could disappear on the spot.
Emilio stood next, his demeanor calmer. "Emilio Doyle. Like Daffin, I'm here to study and… yes, support Odel."
Clayton stood up last and said curtly, "Clayton Doyle," before sitting back down. Despite his brevity, his presence still managed to captivate the room.
Once introductions were over, the class began. Odel tried to focus on Professor Grayson's lecture, but her fiancés' antics kept distracting her.
"Do you understand this term?" Daffin whispered, pointing at his notebook filled with scribbles.
"Can you please be quiet?" Odel muttered back. "Just listen to the professor."
Meanwhile, Emilio was busy jotting things down, though Odel wasn't sure if it was even relevant. Clayton, on the other hand, stared out the window serenely, seemingly indifferent to the lecture.
When group discussions began, things got even more chaotic. Odel was placed in a group with Fiona, a cheerful student who quickly warmed up to her. To her dismay, all three of her fiancés ended up in the same group.
"Do you all know each other?" Fiona asked curiously.
"Yes, we're her fiancés," Daffin replied nonchalantly.
Fiona's jaw dropped, but Odel quickly interjected, "Don't listen to him. They're my cousins. We're family and just happen to study the same field." She stomped on Daffin's foot to keep him quiet.
While Clayton and Emilio were engrossed in their reading, Fiona continued chatting with Odel.
"Are your cousins models or something? They're stunning," Fiona asked.
Daffin immediately chimed in, "No, we're just ordinary guys. But thank you for the compliment."
Fiona laughed. "Ordinary? That's hard to believe."
"They work out a lot. That's why they look so fit," Odel replied, fabricating an excuse.
Clayton and Emilio glanced at Odel, grinning before returning their attention to their assignments.
Thankfully, the rest of the class passed without further incident. The vampires seemed to have finally adjusted and refrained from standing out too much among humans.
After Class
When the class ended, Odel quickly gathered her belongings. She glanced at her three fiancés, who were conversing quietly in the corner of the room.
"We're stepping out for a bit," Daffin whispered as he walked past Odel.
"Where are you going?" Odel frowned, looking at them suspiciously.
"Don't worry, we're just taking some time to ourselves," Emilio added calmly.
Clayton, the most reserved of the three, gave her a brief nod. "We'll be fine."
Before Odel could question them further, they had already left the classroom at an almost supernatural speed.
"Unbelievable," Odel muttered. "They're like a whirlwind."
Feeling it was pointless to chase after them, Odel decided to head to the library, seeking the solace of books to clear her mind.
"Don't worry. We just need some time alone… a moment for ourselves," Emilio added calmly.
Clayton, who usually spoke the least, gave a brief nod. "We'll be fine."
Before Odel could ask further questions, the three of them exited the classroom at an unnaturally quick pace, almost like a gust of wind. Odel let out a long sigh. "Seriously, they're like a whirlwind."
Feeling it was pointless to follow them, Odel decided to head to the library. She always found peace among the shelves of books—a place where she could forget the commotion caused by her vampire fiancés.
At the Valtrossa University Library
The library was Serene, with only the soft sound of footsteps and gentle whispers filling the air. Odel found an empty corner near the history section and settled there, opening her notes to try to comprehend the lecture material from earlier.
As she immersed herself in reading, a book thudded onto the table in front of her.
"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to disturb you," a soft yet deep voice said.
Odel looked up to see a young man standing before her. His dark brown hair and round glasses gave him a scholarly look. He wore a gray sweater that added to his cozy demeanor.
"It's fine," Odel replied briefly, returning her focus to her book.
The man hesitated for a moment before speaking again.
"You're new here, aren't you? I haven't seen you around before."
"Yes, I'm a new student," Odel answered, trying not to sound too friendly.
"My name's Adrian," he introduced himself, pulling out a chair and sitting across from her.
"I come here a lot. This library feels like my second home."
Odel raised an eyebrow, surprised by Adrian's boldness.
"Odel," she said shortly.
"Are you studying Introduction to Sociology?" Adrian asked, glancing at the book in her hands.
"Yes. The lecture earlier was a bit confusing, so I'm trying to understand it better."
Adrian smiled, his straight teeth flashing briefly. "If you need help, I know the material pretty well. I enjoy reading outside of class."
Odel felt herself relax a little. "Really? That must be nice."
Their conversation continued naturally. Adrian explained some concepts that had puzzled Odel during the lecture. He spoke in a way that was easy to understand, and Odel started to realize that Adrian was genuinely intelligent.
"So, according to that theory, human behavior is largely influenced by the social structure around them," Adrian explained, showing her his personal notes filled with diagrams and summaries.
"Wow, you're so organized," Odel complimented sincerely.
"Thank you," Adrian said with a small smile. "I just like making sure everything makes sense."
Talking to Adrian felt different. There was none of the tension she often felt around her fiancés.
Just as she was beginning to feel comfortable, her phone vibrated. A message from Daffin lit up the screen:
"We're back. Where are you? Don't stay too long, sweetheart."
Odel sighed, hiding a small smile. "How do they always know?" she thought.
"I think I have to go," she said, packing up her things.
"Oh, okay," Adrian replied, a hint of disappointment in his voice. "If you need more help, I'm usually here every afternoon."
Odel nodded with a faint smile. "Thanks, Adrian. See you."
Outside the library, her three vampire fiancés were already waiting for her. Daffin leaned casually against the wall, Emilio fiddled with his phone, and Clayton stood with his arms crossed over his chest.
"I missed you," Daffin teased, stepping closer. "Anything interesting in the library?"
"Nothing interesting," Odel replied quickly, trying to hide her smile.
Daffin leaned in with a suspicious look. "Really? I thought you liked books a lot."
"I do. By the way, where did you guys go?" Odel asked, trying to change the subject.
"Drinking blood juice in a quiet spot," Emilio answered nonchalantly.
"Yep. We made sure not to bother any humans," Clayton added tersely.
Odel rolled her eyes. "You brought it in your flasks?" she asked incredulously.
"Of course! If I didn't bring any, would you consider donating some of yours?" Clayton whispered, sending a shiver down her spine.
"Stop it!"
As the four of them chatted outside the library, their presence attracted attention.
Inside, Adrian, the new friend Odel had just met, watched them closely from a window. His eyes narrowed as if he sensed something unusual.
"How can creatures of darkness appear here?" he muttered, his gaze fixed on the three men surrounding Odel.
