It Was Over

Chapter 40- It was over

Beatrice POV

My body ached from the relentless torture, every nerve screaming in agony, but the sharp pain I had been feeling suddenly faded into nothingness the moment I heard those words leave his mouth.

It was over.

For a brief, foolish moment, I had clung to hope. I had thought—no, I had prayed—that I would somehow make it out of here alive. That I would be spared. That maybe, just maybe, fate wouldn't be so cruel to me.

How dense could I have been?

The man who had been wearing the mask—the man who had overseen my suffering—reached out and patted my head as if I were some obedient dog. I flinched at his touch, but he merely chuckled before stepping away, making his way toward the other two men who had been standing in the shadows.

So this was how it ended.
