Chapter 26: For her

Arnold had long since wondered what he would have done, had Brunhilde not swept him off his feet.

She was the reason behind him becoming a guard. A proud warrior like her would have never agreed to date a farmer, Arnold had been sure.

The guards were the only ones who did not want an entrance fee for someone to study with them. Add to that the fact that it was a noble calling, and they got paid and fed, and Arnold would have agreed to stay with them until the end of the world.

And now, he was on the run. The king himself was hunting his group. They had already been attacked by organ harvesters.

Arnold looked at the concoction the witch was pouring into his cup. The price was a step one. He would never be able to father any more children.

But if he went through with this, then he would be able to protect Brunhilde, Michael and Brenda.

He took out his water skin and took in a deep gulp. Thinking it was his last, before he changed.
