As Nate and Pala came back with Callahan, their hearts were heavy.
Oh, Pala had not given herself away. She had sat in the darkness, enjoying the warm food, which she had found after the aroma had reached her nose.
For the two of them, to think that Mark had created Callahan with the memories of the man's dead lover and not taken him as a lover when Callahan had shown interest was beyond cruel.
And yet, the goblin was calm. Collected.
Waiting to be reunited with his dungeon core. It wasn't fair, the two of them thought.
But that was just how life was.
Nate looked at Pala, who was staring at the goblin with pity in her eyes. He wanted to sigh but felt that the man didn't deserve such a grave insult.
He was not to be pitied. Even with the memories of the dead lover, Nate mused, he still had a free will.
Could have run away if he wanted to.
But Mark must have done something, led Callahan on, to get him so enraptured.
