CHAPTER NINE

Lily hesitated, staring at the screen. She couldn't keep lying to him, but she also couldn't tell him the truth—that she was stuck, that Aiden might already be onto her, that things were spiraling out of control.

She sighed and typed back, Im still working on it.

As soon as the message was sent, she felt a wave of guilt. She wasn't just deceiving Michael—she was deceiving herself. She had underestimated Aiden Sinclair from the beginning, and now she was entangled in a web that was growing more dangerous by the day.

The next morning, Lily arrived at work feeling more determined. She had to get answers, and she had to do it soon. But she would need to be smarter, more cautious.

As the day wore on, she kept her interactions with Aiden brief, focusing instead on her tasks and trying to remain as inconspicuous as possible. She still didn't fully understand his game, but she had to play along until she figured it out.

Near the end of the day, however, Aiden approached her desk, his expression unreadable.

Miss Robinson, he said, his voice calm but firm, Id like you to join me for a private dinner tonight. We have some things to discuss.

Lilys heart skipped a beat. Dinner?

Yes, Aiden replied, his eyes meeting hers. I think its time we cleared the air.

There was no mistaking the underlying message. He wanted to confront her—about what, she wasn't entirely sure, but she knew it was coming.

Lily nodded, keeping her voice steady. Of course, Mr. Sinclair.

As Aiden walked away, she realized that this dinner might be the turning point. Whatever secrets Aiden was hiding, whatever game he was playing—it was all about to come to light. And Lily had to be ready for whatever came next.
