Chapter 13

Emma was now out of her apartment building and immediately she saw the car. She went to the car, opened the door and entered.

"Good evening." The driver said when she closed the door.

"Evening." Emma replied.

Emma could not get a good look at the driver because he did not turn back and it was dark.

The driver started to drive and now she was on her way to meet Julian.

Driving through the city, Emma kept on looking out the window admiring the city at night. It was something she was not used to because she hardly goes out by this time.

"It's beautiful right, the city at night. It's noisy but still beautiful." The driver said from nowhere.

Emma was surprised to hear the driver say something and hearing his voice now made her realize that it was an elderly man.

"Uhmmm… yeah it is." She replied.

"I have lived in this city for a really long time now and it never gets old, I would say that new interesting things just keeps coming up." The man said.

Emma did not understand why the man was trying to have a conversation with her but she did not mind. "You are not from this city are you?" The man asked.

"No I'm not, I came here few years ago for work." Emma replied

"I can see that."

"How long have you lived in this city?" Emma asked.

"40yrs now I think, but in this city time really flies so you have to make the best of it."

"Make the best of it how?" Emma asked curiously.

"Well I am sure you'll figure that out all by yourself." The man said.

"I don't think I can figure out anything now, I don't even have control over my life at the moment. Everything is just overwhelming."

"Don't worry about that, everything will turn out okay in the end."

"How do you know that?" Emma asked.

"To be honest I don't know, at least I keep hoping that is how it ends." The man replied. "We have arrived." The man said as he stopped the car.

Emma did not notice when they arrived, for some reason she enjoyed talking to the man.

"Oh, alright." Emma looked out of the window.

"Enjoy your time tonight." The man said.

"I am not sure about that." Emma opened the car door. She was about to leave the car but then she asked the man, "Will we meet again?

"I am certainly sure we will." The man said.

Emma came out of the car and closed the door. The man drove and then Emma realized that she forgot to ask the man his name.

But that quickly left her mind when she turned back and looked at the restaurant. It was big and it looked fancy, it was like a restaurant that only the rich go to.

She wanted to get this over with so she walked to the restaurant entrance. She got to the entrance but no one was at the door which was strange for a restaurant of this kind.

Now she was inside the restaurant, and it looked fancier. The chairs, the table and everything else were top class.

She immediately saw Julian sitting on a table but the thing that caught her attention was that it was only Julian that was in the restaurant and no one else.

She did not want to think about it too much so she just walked to Julian.

She got to the table and sat down, as much as she did not want to ask, she was too curious, "Sorry, I know it's late but why are we the only ones in this restaurant.

"I bought the restaurant so that we can be alone." Julian replied.

"You bought the restaurant? Why did you do that?"

"Well because I don't want the media or anyone else knowing that we are meeting up. Everything is already escalating as it is, I don't want to give them more things to talk about. And I don't want my parent's knowing about our meeting." Julian replied.

"Alright, that is understanding but did you really have to buy the restaurant, isn't that just much."

"I am not really in the best state of mind at the moment so don't mind me if I do something much." Julian said.

The atmosphere was weird for Emma, she did not know what exactly to say and it seemed like Julian also did not want to be here.

"So I am here now." Emma said.

Julian sat up, "You must be a really nice person, you are also beautiful and there is nothing wrong with you but I don't want this engagement or marriage. You are a reasonable person so I know you don't really want this. We need to find a way to stop it." Julian said.

Emma was expecting that but then she realized that she has not thought about a way to make the wedding not to happen.

"You are right, the last thing I want is to get married, but I don't really know what to do." She replied.

"Hmmm, okay. For now we need to focus on stopping the engagement because if we can do that then we won't need to worry about marriage."

The conversion was so weird for Emma and because of that, she was not concentrating well. She never thought that she would be having this kind of conversation with anyone.

"Why don't you try talking to your parent's about it, maybe if you do that, they will call it off?" Emma suggested.

"When we got back from the hospital that is all I have been trying to do but they won't listen to me, and I don't think they will." Julian replied. "You need to do something about it.

"I don't know anything I can do now." Emma said.

"My parents think really highly of you because of what you did and because of the record you have in my company. So maybe if they don't see you like that then they will certainly call off the engagement."

"So you are saying that I should do something that will make your parents see me as less." Emma's mood changed.

"Yes, for now that is the only thing I can think of."

"Sorry I don't think I can do that." Emma said with a tune.

"What do you mean you can't do it, I thought you don't want this engagement."

"Yes I don't want it but I am not going to spoil my name just because of that. Because of your family my life is going out of control, my name is already all over the internet and now you want to me to do something bad so that your parents will stop liking me."

Emma was annoyed with how insensitive Julian was and now she felt like leaving. Julian did not know what to say, to him he did nothing wrong so he did not understand why her mood changed all of a sudden.

Emma stood up from the chair, "Well if you don't have any other idea I think I will be going now, it's getting really late." She said.

"Wait, you are leaving." Julian stood up.

"I am, I will try my best to stop the engagement and if you have any other idea, you can always inform me." Emma started to walk away from Julian.
