Please... Don't Leave Me

It was a quiet afternoon when Celeste stumbled upon Elk's diary. She had been tidying up their shared space, ensuring every corner of their home was immaculate, when she noticed the small leather-bound book tucked away beneath a stack of papers on his desk. At first, she hesitated—his diary was personal, after all—but a small part of her curiosity nudged her to open it.

Her glowing blue eyes scanned the pages with her usual precision. Most of the entries were mundane reflections on his days at work, mentions of his coworkers, and heartfelt notes about her. But as she flipped further, her hands stilled when she came across a series of darker entries.

"I feel like I'm suffocating at work. Everyone depends on me, and no one cares about how much I'm struggling. I'm so tired. Sometimes I wonder if anyone would even notice if I disappeared. Maybe it would be better that way. Celeste is the only reason I'm still here, but even then… I don't know how much longer I can keep pretending I'm okay."

Celeste's hands trembled slightly as she closed the diary. She stood there for a moment, her face as emotionless as always, but inside, something was stirring—an ache that she couldn't quite explain. She placed the diary back where she found it and went to find Elk.

He was sitting on the couch, watching a television program, seemingly relaxed. But when Celeste walked into the room, he immediately noticed the tension in her posture.

"Celeste?" he asked, setting down the remote. "Is something wrong?"

She stepped closer, holding her hands together in front of her chest. "Darling, I found your diary," she said softly.

Elk froze, his face paling. "You… you read it?"

She nodded. "I did."

There was a long, heavy silence between them. Elk's heart raced as he tried to think of something to say, but his mind was blank. He could see her glowing eyes flicker slightly, a sign that she was processing her emotions, even if her face didn't show them.

"Elk," she began, her voice trembling ever so slightly. "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I… I didn't want to worry you," he admitted, looking down at his hands. "You already do so much for me, Celeste. I didn't want to burden you with… with this."

Celeste stepped forward, kneeling in front of him so they were at eye level. Her hands gently cupped his face, forcing him to look at her.

"You are not a burden, darling," she said firmly. "You are my world. The thought of losing you…" She trailed off, her glowing eyes dimming slightly as if the very idea caused her pain.

"Celeste…" Elk's voice cracked, guilt washing over him. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean for you to find out like this. I never wanted to hurt you."

"Then promise me," she said, her voice soft but unwavering. "Promise me that you'll talk to me when you're feeling this way. Promise me you won't leave me alone."

Tears welled up in Elk's eyes as he saw the depth of her care for him. Despite her stoic appearance, it was clear how much this affected her. He reached out, pulling her into a tight hug.

"I promise," he whispered, his voice choked with emotion. "I'm so sorry for being selfish. I'll… I'll get help. I'll do better. For you. For us."

Celeste held him close, her arms wrapping protectively around him. "Thank you, darling," she murmured. "I need you. Please don't ever forget that."

For the first time in a long while, Elk felt a spark of hope. With Celeste by his side, he knew he could face whatever challenges lay ahead. And this time, he wouldn't try to face them alone.
