Are You Good For My Son

The doorbell rang just as Elk was adjusting his shirt in the hallway. His heart pounded in his chest, and despite the reassurance Celeste had given him, he couldn't shake the nervousness creeping up on him.

"Are you ready, darling?" Celeste asked from behind him, her voice calm but full of care.

Elk turned to face her, his gaze meeting hers. "I don't know if I'm ever going to be 'ready,' but I think it's time." He smiled weakly. "You look perfect."

Celeste gave him a soft, reassuring smile, her glowing blue eyes flickering with warmth. "I will stand by you, no matter what. You've been nervous about this for a while, sweetie. But remember, we are a team."

With one last deep breath, Elk opened the door. His parents stood there, both looking a little uncertain but eager. His mother, with her warm smile and gentle eyes, stepped forward first, while his father, though quieter and more reserved, observed carefully.

"Elk," his mother said, stepping forward to give him a hug. "It's been so long! We were wondering when we'd meet this 'mysterious wife' of yours."

Elk smiled, feeling the weight of his nervousness settle in his chest. "Mom, Dad, come on in. I'm so glad you're here."

As his parents entered the apartment, Elk glanced at Celeste, who stood gracefully by the door, waiting.

"Mom, Dad, this is Celeste," he said, his voice full of love and pride.

Celeste stepped forward with her usual grace, her glowing blue eyes meeting his parents' gaze. "It's an honor to meet you," she said in her calm, steady voice.

The silence hung in the air for a moment as Elk's parents took in the sight of his wife. His mother's eyes softened with curiosity, but his father's gaze was more intense, studying her intently.

"Well, it's nice to meet you, Celeste," Elk's mother said, her voice warm but with a hint of uncertainty. "You… you're very beautiful."

"Thank you," Celeste replied with a gentle nod, her emotionless expression remaining intact. "I do my best to make Elk happy."

As the conversation started, Elk's mother asked questions about how they met, what Celeste's interests were, and how she spent her time. Celeste answered each question thoughtfully and with care, her composure and poise undeniably striking.

Elk's mother smiled warmly, yet Elk could see the doubt in her eyes. His father, who had been quiet up until now, cleared his throat. "So, Celeste, what is it exactly that you… do? You know, for a living?"

Elk's heart sank slightly. This was the part of the conversation he had feared the most. His father wasn't one to let go of a topic quickly.

Celeste didn't seem fazed by the question. "I am designed to care for Elk," she replied simply, "to support him in every way I can."

There was a pause before his father spoke again. "And… what else?"

"I enjoy taking care of our home and making sure Elk is happy," she answered, her voice steady. "I also assist him with any challenges he faces."

His father continued to scrutinize her with a piercing gaze. It wasn't that he didn't like her—he was simply trying to understand something that didn't quite make sense to him.

"Your son is a great man," Celeste added, catching Elk's father off guard. "I am grateful to have him in my life. He has shown me what love truly is."

Elk's father blinked, clearly taken aback by her words. His mother, too, seemed moved by the sincerity in Celeste's tone.

The conversation continued, but Elk could tell his parents were growing more and more perplexed. They tried to find some small flaw or inconsistency—something that didn't sit right with them—but no matter how hard they tried, they couldn't find anything.

Every time they asked a question, Celeste answered with grace. She was warm, caring, and attentive, her every gesture perfectly timed. Her glowing eyes never faltered, and her poised manner left little room for doubt.

Elk's mother couldn't help but smile at how devoted Celeste was to her son. "You seem so perfect for each other," she said, though there was still a trace of unease in her voice. "But, well, it's a bit of a shock. I mean, Elk, you never told us you were married. And then… to find out that she's… well, you know…"

"I understand this is a lot to process," Celeste said gently, sensing his mother's hesitation. "But I can assure you, I am here to make Elk's life better. To support him in every way I can."

Elk's father finally spoke, his voice softer than before. "You're very… composed." He paused, studying her one last time. "But I'll admit, I'm having trouble understanding. You seem almost too perfect, if that makes sense."

Elk's heart sank for a moment. He had known this wouldn't be easy, but hearing his father express this concern made him anxious.

Celeste, however, didn't seem phased. "There is no such thing as 'too perfect,' sir," she said with a soft smile. "I simply try to be the best version of myself for Elk, and he does the same for me. We complement each other."

As the evening wore on, Elk's parents grew more comfortable in Celeste's presence. Their initial apprehension slowly began to fade, replaced by a grudging respect for her. She was everything they could have hoped for in a wife for their son—graceful, beautiful, and deeply devoted.

In the end, they couldn't deny it. Elk had found someone who was perfect for him.

"Well, I'll admit," Elk's father said with a sigh, "I've been worried, but after meeting you, Celeste, I can see that you care deeply for our son. That's what matters most."

Elk smiled, relieved that the tension had finally broken. He reached for Celeste's hand, his heart swelling with love.

"I'm so glad you're happy, Elk," his mother added, her voice softer now. "I can see that Celeste makes you happy, and that's all we ever wanted for you."

"Thank you," Elk said, his voice filled with gratitude. "I'm happy too. I wouldn't change a thing."

As his parents said their goodbyes and left the apartment, Elk stood at the door, watching them go. Celeste stood beside him, her glowing eyes soft and reassuring.

"We did well, sweetie," Celeste said, her calm voice filling the quiet room.

"Yeah," Elk replied, smiling at her. "I think we did."

Despite the uncertainty they had both felt earlier, Elk now knew—his parents had finally accepted Celeste as his wife. And with her by his side, he knew he could face whatever came next.
