The two werewolves both shifted into their human forms. Even stripped of their wolfish appearance, their presence was no less commanding.
The man was tall and broad. His sharp jawline and piercing golden eyes seemed to cut right through me. The woman was equally imposing, her long, dark hair framing a face that carried both beauty and danger.
I let out a low growl, a warning to stay back, but it sounded weaker than I intended. They ignored it completely, closing the distance between us with unhurried steps, as if they had already won.
“Is this the boy you sensed?” the woman asked.
“It’s him,” the man replied, his eyes narrowing. “If Jess hadn’t made that call, I’d have thought he was just another nobody.”
His gaze locked onto mine, and his eyes glowed. My wolf, usually defiant and ready to fight, shrank back. I felt it retreat deep inside me, curling up like a frightened pup.
A cold chill ran down my spine.
