“Hey, chin up. You did your best,” the girl from earlier said as she walked beside me on the way back to the cabin.
“I’m Jess, by the way.”
“Nice to meet you, Jess,” I replied curtly.
She looked at me expectantly, waiting for me to offer my name. When it became clear I wasn’t going to, she sighed in mild frustration.
“It’s challenging to use our senses fully in human form, but you tried.” She gave me an encouraging smile before someone interrupted us.
“Hey, hurry over!” Don called out, her voice sharp.
I groaned inwardly, watching Jess break away to rejoin her friends. Reluctantly, I made my way over to Don.
When I reached her, she patted me on the back with an ease that felt too familiar. “Later tonight, or maybe tomorrow, we’ll introduce you to the pack.”
“Okay. Will I be allowed to go wherever I want, or am I still kidnapped?” My jaw clenched as I asked. The thought of being confined here churned my stomach.
