"Did I hear that right? The proficiency increased by a full hundred…"
Staring at the progress bar of Windblade Swordsmanship, Shanuo scratched his head, feeling an inexplicable sadness. Over the past three years of painstaking sword practice, his proficiency had only reached a little over four hundred in total—barely an increase of one point per day.
But now, it seemed that using Windblade Swordsmanship in actual combat with others could rapidly improve his proficiency?
"Unbelievable…"
This was the disadvantage of living in a place like Orange Town. In three years, he hadn't had a single opportunity to fight someone while using Windblade Swordsmanship, so he naturally hadn't discovered this.
"If that weren't the case, my Windblade Swordsmanship might have already broken through to the beginner level, and I'd have mastered Steel Slash by now…"
He let out a sigh.
His gaze shifted downward to the familiar skill description of Steel Slash. With just a glance, Shanuo understood the basics of how to use the skill. Suddenly, he became eager to try it out. Drawing his wooden sword from his waist, he walked over to the edge of the ship's railing.
The sea breeze blew against him, causing Shanuo to squint slightly. Beyond the railing lay the deep blue ocean, its surface glimmering with faint ripples under the sunlight.
"Alright, let's give it a try…"
Taking a deep breath, Shanuo focused ahead, his grip on the sword hilt tightening. At this moment, whether from nervousness or excitement, beads of sweat formed on his palm, dampening the wooden hilt.
A sharp and silent aura began to rise around him.
The aura felt like sword energy—soundless and invisible, yet tangible and real to anyone immersed in it.
It was as if the wind itself were whispering…
"Now!"
When the aura peaked, Shanuo's eyes narrowed sharply. He let out a low shout, and with a sudden burst of strength from his wrist, the blade of the wooden sword turned into a blur. It carried an intensely sharp momentum as it slashed downward!
"Steel Slash!"
Whoosh!
The sound of the blade cutting through the air roared to life. Within the piercing sword energy, the edges of Shanuo's sleeves showed tiny tears. Meanwhile, in the direction of his sword's point, the sea water below surged up, creating a half-meter-high splash that soared into the air before crashing back down onto the deck with a loud splash.
Caught off guard, Shanuo was drenched by the wave, looking like a soaked chicken.
Yet there was no sign of frustration on his face. After wiping the seawater from his face, he glanced at the wooden sword in his hand and suddenly burst out laughing.
"As expected of Torso's gift—absolutely unstoppable…"
Shanuo hadn't expected that even at level one, Steel Slash could generate sword energy from the blade's surface. Though the power didn't seem overwhelming, it was enough to significantly enhance his current strength.
"If I were to spar with Biggie again, I bet even he'd have trouble parrying this slash. Even if he went all out from the start, my chances of winning would still be high."
However, as the initial thrill of using sword energy wore off, an overwhelming sense of exhaustion crept over him. His already sore wrist began to throb with sharp pain, prompting him to hiss in discomfort.
"This skill is great, but the toll on my body is too much. If I try to use Steel Slash again, this hand might not hold up…"
Frowning slightly, Shanuo hesitated for a moment before sheathing his wooden sword. Initially, he'd planned to test the skill a few more times to see if the third strike could really generate a tornado like in the game.
But judging by his current condition, even if he hadn't sparred with Biggie earlier, executing Steel Slash three times in a row seemed impossible. With his current physical capabilities, the move could only serve as a trump card.
"It seems I can't slack off on my swordsmanship training. I need to improve my basic attributes as quickly as possible."
Sighing regretfully, Shanuo massaged his wrist while leaning back against the railing. As he did, his thoughts triggered the system interface to reappear before his eyes.
"Eh, is this the basic sea voyage gift package?"
This time, having already tested Steel Slash, Shanuo's attention wasn't drawn to the attribute changes on the panel. Instead, his eyes immediately caught a new addition at the bottom: a backpack-like section with six empty slots. Most were empty, but the first slot contained a faintly glowing yellow package.
"So this system really is just a low-tier game assistant system, huh…"
He muttered under his breath while staring at the package, slightly troubled. "But how am I supposed to open it?"
"Huh?"
While pondering, Shanuo suddenly noticed that focusing his gaze on the package for three seconds caused a small dark gray box to appear above it, displaying a line of text:
"Yes/No?"
Squinting slightly, Shanuo murmured, "This feels oddly familiar…"
"But it's probably not some shady god running a black-market operation, right…"
Clearing his throat, Shanuo shook off his wild thoughts and focused on the "Yes" option.
Sure enough, after three seconds, the box disappeared, and the package emitted a brilliant golden light as several items burst out.
At the same time, the system's mechanical voice echoed in his mind:
"You have opened the basic gift package. Congratulations! You've received a weapon enhancement opportunity!"
"Congratulations! You've received Yasuo's Flute X1!"
"Congratulations! You've received Basic Iaido Technique X1!"
"Congratulations! You've received Valoran's Bronze Gift X1!"
…
The endless notifications and the sudden influx of items dazzled Shanuo. When everything settled, he was stunned to find a pile of objects before him, all identical to what the interface had shown:
A long wooden box, an aged and slightly curled scroll, and a palm-sized bronze chest.
"They materialized in the real world? That's way too risky! I need to find a completely safe and sealed-off place for things like this in the future…"
After glancing around to ensure no one was nearby, Shanuo finally relaxed. He scanned the items briefly before reaching out for the wooden box on the far right and gently opened its metal clasp.
