A village in troubles

By orders of Kali, I was thrown once more into a carriage. This time without restraints, but she made sure to point the tip of her scythe to my face to make sure I understood her message: stand still and do anything stupid.

"You keep doing as you are told and your head stays on your shoulders," she said with her eyes yelling murder at me. "Let's get moving!"

She is meant to be a queen and she is coming with her cohorts to defend the village? That is something impressive if it wasn't for the way she was threatening my life.

"Can you sit, queen?" Asked Dara, sitting on one side of the carriage while watching the exchange.

"Don't give me orders"

The carriage creaked and moved like crazy as it moved through the path towards the village. Why I was being brought there was a mystery for me, all I knew was that the queen herself said I was going to make sure I was useful for something. I hope she was not thinking about making me fight.

Nayleth's face was a mess. I could see the horror in him. His ears were glued to his scalp and his tail was wrapped around his left leg while he was sitting. Dara placed a hand on his shoulder and made him jump, only to then look at her and nod, relaxing. Abit. Kali was looking at him as if inspecting him for any reactions.

I just wish there was no weapon aimed at me during the trip.

After getting through the whole trip, where Kali just kept her weapon on me and barely even when the road got bumpy, she ordered me to get down, so I did the smart thing and just complied. I would prefer to not feel her scythe's blade or the fireball she threw at the dummy hit me. I was causing less than 20 of damage and she was son the hundreds, who knows how much I can take.

We stopped in a clearing in the forest, and I could see smoke over the tree line. It was the village burning from the attack. Every second I was seeing how it would end, being forced into a combat situation.

"Nayleth, wait!" I heard Dara's voice scream, and the following act was Nayleth running towards the village.

Dara went after him "You two wait, dammit!" Yelled Kali when she saw them running. "Soldiers! Follow them!"

Some of the orcs and goblins went after them. The one that carried me earlier was among the ones left.

"We have reports they are around 50 soldiers of the Holy Kingdom, my queen," the orc said. "Your orders."

"Those saint bastards! No time to plan tactics! Move and charge! Defend the village!" Kali ordered while aiming with her scythe, then she pointed it at my face "You are coming too, 'champion'"

I clicked my mouth, getting tired of this constant pestering and orders while threatening me. Yet I had no more options unless I wanted to survive. I was hoping I would find a chance to escape

I wish I didn't have to go.

The people living in the village were of the same species as Dara and Nayleth. What I could gather from her character status was that their name was Vulpin.

The moment I entered the village I saw some of the dead bodies while Kali kept dragging me around. Saying it was horrifying was putting it lightly, it was the first time I saw something like this. You could probably see some animes and movies where a bandit group or soldiers attack a village and rampage but is not the same as seeing the real deal. I could smell the burning wood, the fire, and the blood. There was so much of it.

"Search for survivors and kill any yellow-wearing bastard!" Kali yelled and the soldiers yelled back in approval, running towards the village, searching.

"With some luck, there are enough survivors, but some soldiers must be around the place," Said the leader of the orcs, who stood there.

I was looking terrified of everything around me.

"Dammit, how did I get into this mess?" I said while looking around. Bodies of the people that lived there were thrown on the ground, dead after bleeding out.

"Let's go," said the queen.

I looked at her, and for a moment I saw all the anger and security on her demeanor disappear only to be replaced by a dull and distant expression, her lips almost trembling for less than a second. Then she shook her head and started walking.

The village was big and they were using a lot of space for farming. On the other side from where we came, there were big fields of different plants and vegetables.

At the distance, I could hear some screams, probably some soldiers found each other and were fighting.

"Watch it!" Said Kali at one point.

I looked at the distance a couple of villagers running from a group of soldiers. One of them, a woman, was holding a baby while the other, a male, was trying to help them run.

"Help!" Yelled the male once he saw us in the distance.

One of the soldiers then managed to reach the male with his sword, and made a cut right on his back, causing him to cry in pain and fall to the ground. His wife (I believe it was) turned around to see him fall to the ground and then get stabbed with a sword. I just watched a man get killed.

One of the soldiers grabbed the woman and tried to steal her children. And she started to fight back not letting her.

The orc grabbed a javelin he was wearing and threw his arm back while holding it, and then front, throwing it. I felt a gust of wind when he did, and not expecting it I almost fell to the ground. How strong can one of those guys be?!

Kali started running towards them, and she was fast, especially since she was still wearing her heels, managing to run beside the javelin the orc threw. And he went behind her, although he was not as fast.

"Bastards!" She yelled and jumped.

The soldiers looked towards us only for one of them to get hit directly on the neck by the javelin. Before they could react, Kali reached the one who was trying to steal the baby from the woman and hit him right across the neck with her scythe. Is not surprising to say that they both died at the moment. Even with the system in place, they probably hit way too hard.

"T-the demon queen is here!" He yelled, right before Kali tried to hit him, to which he managed to react and defend himself, only to get pushed.

I looked around... and noticed this was my chance. I was alone, I could escape and be done with them. Where? I had no idea, but I needed to do something. I looked towards the fields and saw a squad of soldiers wearing a similar armor to the ones that Kali and the orc were fighting. The other way it is.

Maybe I could hide myself until everything was done, right? I saw one of the houses was empty and decided to get inside, probably I could find somewhere to avoid being found inside.

Once I crossed the door I quickly searched inside somewhere to hide, only to find myself with a horrible scene. Two dead bodies, Vulpins with red fur, dead, obvious cuts on their bodies from a weapon, one on top of the other. I managed to stop the impulse to scream as I took a step back, especially when I saw a small piece of furniture behind them, a cupboard that was big enough for me to get inside. I had to endure it.

I ran quickly towards it and opened it, jumping over both bodies. "Sorry!" I said while I passed through, not wanting to step on them, and quickly peeked inside, only to find a surprise.

Two very young Vulpins were there, catching me by surprise. A girl and a boy with red fur and blue eyes. They looked at me, scared and afraid that I might do something. They must have been around 8 years old. They rapidly pushed themselves against the corner of the cupboard when I opened the doors.

Before I could react and say something, I realised that those two children most likely were of the dead couple right behind me. Their parents were dead, and probably managed to keep them safe by sacrificing themselves. I was stunend for a moment.

And then steps behind me, metallic ones, like someone wearing an armor.

"I was not expecting a human here" I heard a male voice behind me.

I looked back, two soldiers were standing, one of them with a foot over the dead bodies, looking directly at us, and then at both children. They were humans and wearing yellow.
