I still could not believe we managed to get through that. I had been in fights before, just never one like that. To think something like that was possible in a world like this, and that I did not just witness it, but I was part of it, even when I mostly could not do anything.
"That was our last Haven Stone" I heard Dara's voice right behind me. I turned around and there she was standing, fixing her glasses as always. "We cannot pull a stunt like that anymore"
"It won't matter" answered Kali, who seemed more angry than what I have seen so far. She starts to walk towards the building, trying to leave.
"She seems more annoyed than usual"
"That was our last town" Dara answered "Basically, all we have left is this castle. "And it was the one that was keeping us fed"
One that is clearly in a state of disrepair. And they all are level 10 and probably are the strongest on this part. I could understand why she was annoyed, she lost her last village.
I saw people taking Nayleth out of the courtyard. He was still unconscious, but seeing him still alive made me feel better.
"Kali won't tell you this, Marcel, but thanks for helping," she said and nodded toward me "Even when we have no chance to survive now"
I remember she said they were in a desperate situation. Probably that is what she meant.
"Well, at least we did not die" I commented, as if looking for a silver lining.
The moment the words came out of my mouth, I realized. I did almost die a couple of times there. I have been barely a couple of hours in this world and I have almost been killed several times already.
I looked at my hand, then back at Dara, who seemed to react to my expression.
"We are safe now," she said.
"Safe?" I asked, incredulous "I just got to this world and I almost died! And it was because, for some reason, Kali brought me to the village!"
Is true. For whatever reason she decided I had to go there. She did not explain any reason as to why, she just pulled her scythe on my face and forced me to go with them. If she didn't I would have been alive.
"We needed al the help we could use. It was a matter of-"
"But why me?!" I asked.
Dara looked at me, she seemed to try to find an answer but nothing came out.
"Why?!" I asked again "I have no idea how to fight! I have no idea what is going on in this world! I was ripped apart by that deity and thrown into a new body to randomly be thrown into battle! Why me?!"
"We were out of options!" Dara said, "If you were summoned I assumed you would have received some kind of boon or special power, so I convinced her to take you there!"
"It was you?!" my hands turned into fists "I don't want anything to do with this!"
I turned around and left her. I was mad and scared. I felt my body chacking and sweating like crazy, everything that did not come down during the battle came out at that moment. Why was I placed in that situation? I was not a hero, I was not a big warrior or did not receive an extremely powerful skill that could defeat every enemy.
And let's not start with how confusing was to have to deal with a System. Like this could not be any crazier, I was thrown into a real-life videogame where I could die if I reached 0 HP.
Then was the amount of bodies I saw. Too much blood, bodies and limbs in positions that should never have, and seeing deaths happen right in front of me like nothing. Even Kali was relentless, killing soldiers with only one spell.
I walked through the corridors of the castle, just wanting to get away. The vulpins from the village were around, some crying, others trying to figure out what to do next like I did. They just lost their village, after all. Is not something I could say I understood, but I knew already how it was to suddenly have your life take an unexpected turn.
As I was slowling down when I realised that walking around would get me lost, I felt someone tug my shirt.
"S-sir..." I heard a little girl's voice.
I looked at who was tugging my shirt and saw it was one of the children I saved earlier. I had forgotten it was them.
"T-thank you for saving us..." she said when I stopped and turned around, she was trying to force a smile "You came when we were in danger... after mommy and daddy..." she stopped talking as tears started to appear on her face.
I was shocked for a second for what I saw. The little girl had both her ears against her scalp and her tail tugger around her leg. And she was crying.
My heart ached at that moment for her. I kneeled in front of her and placed my hand on her shoulder. She ran directly towards me and hugged me, surprising me.
I held her back. I felt the shoulder of my shirt getting wet from her tears.
"It's okay. You can cry" I said, trying to comfort her.
A memory plays on my mind for a few moments. I rememebr the rain, I was standing on a field. I was crying like she was at that moment. It was getting dark, very dark. I was scared and confused. All I could imagine is that this little girl felt the same, after all, she had to see the dead bodies of her parents with her brother.
I suppose that if I didn't do something, she would have been made a slave by the soldiers of the Sacred Army.
